It’s hard out there for a Stark, especially in the aftermath of the Red Wedding. With less than two weeks to go until the season 4 premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones (which had its splashy red carpet launch in NYC Tuesday night), the final trailer has been released — and, spoiler alert, everyone’s wondering which kids from House Stark remain living in the Seven Realms following last season’s internet-breaking massacre.
“The Starks have always ruled the North,” says one warrior. “If they’re alive, the country will rally to their side.” Maimed and possibly repentant Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), meanwhile, wonders where Arya (Maisie Williams) has stolen off to. His most-definitely-evil teen nephew King Joffrey later tells his inner circle that his other uncle, would-be usurper Stannis Baratheon, has been defeated for good.
Tell that to Stannis himself (Stephen Dillane), who tells his own council “the war is not over.” (Psst: He’s kind of right, obviously.)
Then, somewhere even farther away from King’s Landing, Daenerys (Emilia Clark) strengthens her already-solid resolve to re-claim House Targaryen’s place on the Iron Throne. “Let the priests argue over good and evil,” vows the Mother of Dragons. “They can live in my new world, or they can die in their old one.”
We’ll stop talking now — watch the trailer, set to a chilling cover of INXS‘s “Devil Inside”!
