Who ya gonna call? Gillian Anderson!
The X-Files actress participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Sunday, Oct. 12, during which she was asked about the upcoming all-female reboot of Ghostbusters.
Anderson, 46, who wasn’t familiar with Paul Feig’s planned sequel, researched it and responded: “OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit!” (The latest Ghostbusters film generated more buzz last week when it was announced that Feig was collaborating with Katie Dippold, who wrote the screenplay for The Heat.)
One Reddit user offered to help Anderson land a role by starting an online petition. “MAKE IT HAPPEN!!” she responded.
The actress, who last appeared on the television series Hannibal and Crisis, was also naturally asked about her most-famous role — Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files TV show and movies. One fan inquired whether there had been any recent progress on a third X-Files flick. “Uh….uh… uh…” she wrote back. “Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground.”
Meanwhile, Anderson said she wanted to partake in an episode of Kumail Nanjiani’s podcast “The X-Files Files.” The star quipped: “I wanna do it! I just heard about this yesterday and it sounds awesome.”
What would make her a strong fit for both Ghostbusters and X-Files? Anderson shared that she’s cognizant of an alternate universe and its presence. “I’ve definitely felt other spirits,” she said in her AMA. “I’m quite sensitive to it. And yes. But it’s not something you can really talk about with too many people, especially not me.”
