Grab the coffee and some Stars Hollow pizza! Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are likely heading back to love quarrels, Friday night dinners with Emily, and Luke’s Diner. (Or at least we hope!) As previously reported, a Gilmore Girls revival is in the works at Netflix — and fans are already pulling out their Yale hoodies.
Here’s eight things we know so far about the project:
1. It Won’t Be an Actual Season
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will be four 90-minute episodes. Anything is better than nothing, so bring back the Dean (Jared Padalecki), Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and Logan (Matt Czuchry) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) love quadrangle!
2. A Time Jump Is Inevitable
TV Line reports that the revival will pick up at least eight or nine years after the series ended, which was in 2007. The gap leaves endless possibilities for where the characters are today. Is Kirk (Sean Gunn) still annoying everyone? Where’s Rory in her career?
3. Lauren Graham Knows Something — But Won’t Say It!
The Parenthood alum, who played Lorelai on the beloved series from 2000 to 2007, tweeted about the revival rumors shortly after news broke on Monday, Oct. 19. “DUDES. I can’t confirm this,” she teased. “But I also can’t deny this…”
4. Mark Your Calendars!
Rumor has it that the Stars Hollow gang will start production next year. If so, Netflix’s other big-time reboot — Fuller House — will premiere around the same time.
5. Madeleine Albright Is Really Excited About It, Too
The first female United States Secretary of State played herself in the series in the 2005 Season 5 episode “Twenty-One Is the Loneliest Number.” She tweeted Monday: “I hope the rumors are true – bring back #GilmoreGirls @Netflix!#gilmoregirlsseason8.”
6. The Cast Is Already Negotiating
Per TV Line, Graham, Bledel, Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), and Scott Paterson (Luke) are in talks to sign contracts. The show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and executive producer Daniel Palladino will be writing the four episodes.
7. One Person Might Be Missing
How will they eat? Rumors are already swirling that Melissa McCarthy, who played Lorelai’s best friend and chef extraordinaire Sookie St. James, will be sitting this one out. The Ghostbusters actress — who has become a blockbuster comedy film star in the years since GG wrapped — also wasn’t in attendance when the cast reunited at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, this past June.
8. Those Four Magical Words
There’s a chance Sherman-Palladino will finally end the series on her own terms. The creator — who left the show before Season 7 over a contract dispute — always wanted to end the series with four final words, which she’s yet to reveal. (Plus, who would say it?!) “At this point I’m just being a complete a—hole,” she said at ATX. “There have been [those four words] since the very beginning.”
9. Four Seasons
According to TV Line, the four episodes will be within one calendar year. That means each episode will represent a new season — winter, spring, summer, and fall.
