The trailer begins with an interview where Nick is told by a journalist that he is “probably the most-hated man in America, right now.” Adds the reporter, “Did you kill your wife, Nick?”

“Everyone told us and told us, ‘marriage is hard work,'” writes Rosamund Pike, who plays victim Amy Dunne, in a diary. “Not for me and Nick.” The teaser flashes back to tense moments between Nick and Amy, and shows the harrowing investigation behind Amy’s sudden disappearance.

“I had nothing to do with the disappearance of my wife,” Affleck claims in one scene. “I have nothing to hide.” Hoards of supporters turn out to help the Dunne family search for Amy, including one mysterious character, played by Neil Patrick Harris. “I know you,” Affleck says to Harris. “I saw you at the volunteer center.”

The creepy teaser continues to show the media frenzy and, in earlier flashbacks, the disintegration of her marriage to suspect number one, Nick. Tyler Perry (who plays defense attorney Tanner Bolt) also makes an appearance in the second trailer for the movie, which hits theaters on October 3.

“I finally realized, I am frightened of my own husband,” Amy concludes in her journal.
