Oh, baby. Unseasonably steamy temperatures hit Seattle just as major characters got caught up in the heat of the moment on Grey’s Anatomy’s Thursday, October 20, episode. Read on for this week’s five most shocking moments:
1. Meredith continued to deny Riggs.
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) truly couldn’t take the heat. When her air conditioning went out during a heat wave, Riggs (Martin Henderson) offered to help. She thought he was suggesting coming over to fix her AC (because there’s definitely no ulterior motive there), but instead he cut to the chase and told her she can stay at his house, where the air conditioning is as free-flowing as the sexual tension. Not surprisingly, she turned him down. Are you there, Shonda? It’s Us, Weekly. Please let this relationship happen already.
2. Amelia told everyone that she’s pregnant …
Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) told Meredith that she was pregnant, but after admitting she hadn’t actually taken a test yet, Meredith made it clear that she was not there for anything but #FactsOnly. “Tell Owen now or later, that’s your call,” she said. “Tell me when it’s real.” Clearly not getting the moral of the story here, Amelia proceeded to tell Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and April (Sarah Drew) too.
3. … and also revealed a major secret.
Some coworkers make small talk in the office bathroom, others reveal deep, dark secrets from the past. When April asked Amelia if she had told Owen (Kevin McKidd) about the baby, Amelia revealed that this wasn’t her first pregnancy. “The last time I got pregnant, I didn’t have to tell the father,” she said. “Because he was dead.” Later, Amelia finally went home and told Owen that she could be pregnant, but when she took the test, they found out that she wasn’t.
4. Meredith and Bailey fought over a liver.
Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Meredith argued over which one of their patients should get a liver transplant. When Bailey’s patient decided that she was not going to give up her spot on the donor list for Meredith’s patient (her exact, poetic words: “Hell no”), Meredith got her patient a liver from another one who had passed away that same day. After Bailey’s successful surgery, she gathered with the patient’s family and took a selfie as they all said “liver,” because this is 2016 and pics or it didn’t happen, right?
5. Jo and DeLuca continue to have sexual tension.
Jo (Camilla Luddington) and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) talked by the ice machine as Jo prepared for her patient’s transplant, which we imagine is our version of water-cooler gossip. Even though she was stressed out and dismissed the conversation, she took a few seconds too long to watch him go, which in life probably means nothing, but in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, it means everything.
Later, the two watched a surgery together and complained about their days. “You should really get that treated,” DeLuca said. “Your self-pity gland, it’s really showing.” The mean-yet-somehow-flirty line clearly worked as Jo laughed, and they continued talking.
Tell Us: Should Meredith and Riggs just become a thing already?
