In a season 2 episode of his show, the comedian gets the opportunity to ride in the Hurst Hemi Under Glass race car as his childhood hero, legendary drag racer Bob Riggle, takes the wheel.

“This has been on my bucket list ever since I was a kid, ever since [the car] stood up in 1965,” Leno, 66, says in the clip of the vehicle, which is known for popping wheelies.

“2,500 horse power … what could go wrong?” he asks.

Apparently, quite a bit.

Things start off smoothly as Riggle, now 80, puts the pedal to the metal as the car races off at the Irwindale Speedway in California. But as the Hurst Hemi Under Glass heads into a turn, it suddenly flips over multiple times.

Cameras inside and outside the vehicle captured the terrifying footage as the car rolled, showing Riggle and Leno — who wore helmets and were strapped into their seats — being jolted around during the accident.

When the vehicle finally came to a stop on its tires, Riggle asks Leno, “Dammit! You all right?”

Both men were unharmed, and as car enthusiast Leno stepped out of the vehicle, he cracks to the camera, “It was certainly exciting!”

“This is only the second accident I’ve had in 50 years of running this car!” Riggle notes.

Jay Leno’s Garage airs on CNBC Wednesday at 10 ET.
