Israel Dillard sure took his time! On May 5’s episode of 19 Kids and Counting, Jill Duggar and husband Derick Dillard chronicle the birth of their first child in a two-hour special, “Jill’s Special Delivery.”
The little one arrived on Monday, April 6, a week and a half past his due date — but Duggar reveals in the special that she went into labor long before the delivery. In fact, she was having contractions for a full 48 hours before the family headed to the hospital.
“We want to labor at home so we’ll be on our own for the first while until things pick up, and then it will be my mom and Jana and the midwife team that will show up after that,” Duggar reveals of her birth plan.
But things didn’t turn out the way they’d anticipated, and instead of delivering at home, the whole family went to the hospital two days after she went into labor.
“We haven’t been able to get things going, so at this point we felt like it would be a good time while I’m not in an emergency situation to get to the hospital,” she wisely says.
Watch the clip above, and the full two-hour special beginning at 8 p.m. ET on TLC.
