Country star Rory Feek shared a new post on his personal blog entitled “Braver Than Me,” in which he revealed that his wife, Joey, who is nearing the end of her battle with cancer, can “no longer get out of bed,” but remains strong-willed.

“She wants to be remembered as a singer of songs,” Rory, 49, wrote on Sunday, Nov. 29. “A devoted wife. A loving mother. Not a cancer patient. My wife is braver than me. My wife is strong. Very very strong. So is her will to live. Especially with a little one who gets excited every morning to see her. Though now, she can no longer get out of bed. But she is beautiful. So so beautiful.”

Joey, 40 — who shares 21-month-old daughter Indiana with Rory — has been battling stage-four cervical cancer since last year. Earlier this month, she announced that she was stopping chemotherapy treatments and subsequently began receiving hospice care at home.

“The word ‘hospice’ makes us all think the worst,” Rory continued. “The end. I’ve since heard that it’s not uncommon for people to be on hospice for six months, or more. So that’s where we are. There isn’t a day that goes by that she doesn’t look at me and her family in the eye and say ‘I’m gonna beat this’ or ‘I’m getting better, I believe that.’ And she asks me if I believe it, and I do. I choose to.”

“For the most part, Joey’s time on hospice has so far been a roller coaster,” he wrote. “One moment her light is very dim and she sleeps all the time and is struggling with the simplest of things. And we believe that the time must be very near. And then, she’ll awaken one day and we’ll see that familiar spark in her eye.”

Last week, Rory shared a post in which he recalled an emotional moment with Joey after looking through pictures of their baby girl.

“I want to raise our baby,” he recalled on Monday, Nov. 23. “I want to be the one to teach her.”

Rory has been keeping fans of the country singer updated through his blog, This Life I Lead, and even shared an instance in which he and Joey danced, and she took the lead.

“Like dancing, she wants to do this right, or not do it at all,” he wrote. “To share the good, the bad, and the beautiful.”
