Katie Holmes Was Asked Which ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Costar Was the Better Kisser and Things Got Awkward

Team Dawson or Team Pacey? Katie Holmes was asked which Dawson’s Creek costar, Joshua Jackson or James Van Der Beek, was the better kisser — and she was just as torn as Joey Potter would be. The question was asked by James Corden on The Late Late Show on Wednesday, February 17.

Holmes, 37, squirmed and refused to answer the question, most likely because Jackson, 37, is one of her famous exes. She laughed and replied: “I can’t!”

Holmes refused to name names, but she did appear to finally lean toward Jackson after her fellow guest, Deadpool hunk Ryan Reynolds, stepped in. “I went to high school with Josh and I can tell you right now he’s a terrific kisser,” Reynolds joked.

Holmes chimed in: “Well, if that’s what he’s saying … “

Holmes played Joey Potter on the beloved coming-of-age series for six seasons from 1998 to 2003. Jackson, 37, and Van Der Beek, 38, played BFFs-turned-frenemies-turned-pals on the Kevin Williamson–created drama.

Holmes and Jackson famously dated after meeting on set. Back in 1998, Holmes opened up about the relationship in a Rolling Stone cover story. “I had really good luck this past year and I had a really wonderful, amazing experience,” she said at the time. “I’m just going to say that I met somebody last year, I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable.”

Holmes’ first kiss ever was also incredible — but it wasn’t with Jackson.

“I do remember my first. I was 18 and it was on Dawson’s Creek,” Holmes revealed on The Late Late Show. “It was a guest star and it’s so awkward because with a first kiss in life if it doesn’t go well you’re kind of like, ‘Oh, I gotta get home.’ And you never have to deal with that person [again]. But on screen you’re gonna have to have lunch and probably work again tomorrow. Also it’s a little bit awkward.”

“So, was it a good one or a bad one?” Corden asked.

Holmes said: “Oh, it was good!”
