The man behind the underwater legend! After enjoying a couple days shrouded in mystery, the left shark from Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime performance has finally been unmasked. Dancer Bryan Gaw stepped forward to claim his rightful title as the new Internet sensation.
“Yep. The rumors are true. Yours truly. #SuperBowlXLIX #KatyPerryHalftimeShow,” he captioned a photo from the most viewed televised event in American history on Instagram.
Gaw is a longtime dancer for Perry, 30, performing on her Prismatic World Tour over the past year.
The left shark became an instant viral hit after his moves seemed less on-point and more confused than those of the right shark’s during Perry’s medley of “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.”
Gaw tweeted, “I’ve always said left coast is the best coast #LeftShark!!!!!#SuperBowlHalftimeShow #HiMom.”
It turns out that the left shark’s performance was exactly what they had practiced. Perry’s choreographer RJ Durell spoke to The Hollywood Reporter after the show, saying, “The sharks were given two main objectives. One, perform Katy’s trademark moves to the ‘Teenage Dream’ chorus, which they both did perfectly; and two, to have loads of fun, and bring to life these characters in a cartoon manner, giving them a Tweedledee/Tweedledum-type persona. Clearly, that was portrayed with the overzealous shark on the right hitting precise dance moves, while the left shark was playing up the more goofy, fun-spirited sports-fan mascot type, who was just happy to be at the Super Bowl.”
On Monday, Feb. 1, it was revealed that the perfected choreography of the right shark belonged to sexy dancer Scott Myrick, one of the backup dancers responsible for the feud between the “Dark Horse” singer and Taylor Swift.
