‘Mariah’s World’ Recap: Mariah Carey Gets Bryan Tanaka Jumping Out of a Cake for Her Birthday

All we want for Christmas is Mariah’s World! The life-changing eight-part docuseries really heated up in the drama department during the Sunday, December 18, episode. On top of her posing on a chaise in fishnets and a strapless leotard for every confessional, we also got to see a side of Mariah Carey that’s contrary to her public persona: She’s a conflict mediator?

Mariah Begs Agents to Help Her Have Extinct Animals at Her Wedding

The episode kicked off with Mariah playing into her “diva” reputation in order to pull a hilarious prank on her agents. While on the phone with a rep, Mariah pleaded for help with an outrageous wedding request, saying, “I wanna have these animals. They’re going extinct. I want them to be at the wedding. … It will get more press for them, and more people will donate money.” She later laughed, saying, “I can’t believe you guys thought I would do that.” We would have fallen for it, too!

Mariah Fires Her Hairdresser Over a “Hump” in the Back of Her Hair

Due to an unsightly “hump” in the back of her hair during a performance, Mariah was not too happy about her new hairstylist, Larry. The pop superstar sat down with her manager, Stella Bulochnikov, and demanded she rehire her old stylist, Danielle Priano, saying, “We need Danielle back.”

Stella responded to Mariah with, “I’d almost rather have you do your own hair then deal with the Danielle drama.” Wow, shots fired! Stella explained in a testimonial, “Danielle wanted too much money. I couldn’t make a deal with her agent.”

Bryan Tanaka Hints at Wanting to Be in a Relationship

We then got to see the ever-shirtless Bryan Tanaka hanging with the other dancers. The dancer — and current Beau of “Miss MC” — was featured talking about (gasp!) romance. The hottie told the camera in a testimonial, “I’m single, and I’m having fun right now. But when I am with the right person? One hundred percent loyalty. And I can’t wait.” Maybe he had a certain pop songstress in mind when revealing that tidbit?

Mariah Carey Is an Hour and a Half Late to Her Luxembourg Concert

After some lighthearted hijinks — involving Stella threatening to sue former employees, and Mariah’s new assistant Molly not knowing what chocolate truffles are — we made our way into the real drama of the episode. While on a private jet en route to her show in Luxembourg, Mariah and her team were hit with some unfortunate news: There’s a one-hour time difference between London (where Mariah is staying) and Luxembourg. Uh-oh. Stella was instantly in denial, saying, “Please tell me this is not true.” Mariah eventually took the stage an hour and a half after she was scheduled to and had the uphill battle of winning over a rowdy, boo-ing audience, with one member even shouting, “Shame on you!”

Mariah mused about her diva reputation, saying, “They like it when I’m late — they think it’s diva-ish. … I’d rather do my best to get there and give them a good experience.” OK, we are kind of shocked at how down-to-earth Mariah Carey is?! Love it!

Bryan Tanaka Hints at Wanting Alone Time With Mariah

One fact about Mariah is that she doesn’t have “birthdays” the way normal people do. Her makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle, explained, “She doesn’t have birthdays — she has anniversaries because birthdays are about getting older.” When her current flame, Bryan, was asked to pop out of a cake during Mariah’s “anniversary” party, he immediately said, “I’m down.”

Bryan then admitted, “I’m really hoping that on her anniversary night, I can have a conversation with MC. … I might have to just steal her for a second.” Ooh la la. In a preview clip for next week’s episode, choreographer Anthony Burrell said, “I’m like, ‘Dude. you’re walking on dangerous ground here.’ The girl is engaged about to be married.” This is juicy knowledge considering this was all filmed prior to Mariah’s notorious split with ex-fiancé James Packer.

Mariah Plays Mediator?!

After a huge blowout fight between Mariah’s manager Stella and hair stylist Danielle, Mariah decided to insert herself as the mediator. You know you’ve got problems when the world’s most famous diva is the one talking you off the ledge! Mariah first confronted her manager about the recent barrage of firings on the Mariah tour, saying, “You can’t just fire everybody.”

By the end of the chat, Mariah had both women hugging it out, with Danielle even saying, “Peace and love.” We were definitely getting Mariah’s social-worker-character-from-Precious vibes from this scene!
