But rather than beaming with excitement, eagle-eyed viewers saw that DiMarco was actually in tears!

Turns out his emotional state was a reaction to the fact that, as a deaf person, he managed to nail a dance with a brand-new partner, despite the fact they hadn’t worked together for long.

Nyle DiMarco scores his first perfect 10.

“I think this week I was nervous about working with someone new and then we got out there tonight and we killed it,” DiMarco told Us Weekly after the show. “I know as a deaf person I can work with anyone and anyone can work with me, but I was proud we achieved that and showed anybody can work with anybody. So I got emotional about it,” he revealed.

And the former America’s Next Top Model star also admitted that he allowed himself to get so emotionally involved in his dance with Sharna Burgess, that by the end his tears had started to flow!

“Right before we danced I wanted to think about what it was like to be in love and incorporate that with Sharna,” the handsome model explained. “And Sharna did a great job connecting with me and I just felt like it was like being in a relationship, so by the end of our dance, I was starting to well up!”

And it wasn’t just DiMarco’s tears that were falling during this week’s show. As Us Weekly reported previously, Tyra Banks showed up to give her former protégé a pep talk, and she was reduced to tears too, as she spoke about how proud she was of him.

“Tyra and I have a deep connection and I think we both know it,” DiMarco told Us of his high-profile supporter. “I think Tyra really saw me grow. I went into America’s Next Top Model and I was an amateur, I didn’t even know what modeling was. By the end when I won and now Tyra coming here to see me dance, I think, ‘Wow! So much has changed for me!'” he continued.

“And she’s sort of like a mother figure to me,” the 26-year-old dancer added. “For a year she’s been kind of a mother for me and life changes so fast.”
