Return to Amish’s Kate Stoltz Bashes Show on Twitter: ‘Reality TV Ruins People’s Lives’

Not happy to return to her own show? Return to Amish’s Kate Stoltz posted a string of incendiary tweets over the weekend that disparaged the show, her costars and the producers.

Ahead of the TLC unscripted series’ season 3 premiere on Sunday, July 10, the model wrote on Twitter that she wishes she had never appeared on the show. Stoltz made her reality TV debut with the September 2012 launch of Breaking Amish, which changed its name to Return to Amish after season 2.

“Doing a reality show was one of the worst decisions I made in my life. Everything on the show is so edited and out of context,” Stoltz tweeted on Friday, July 8. “Tip to anyone that wants a good life: Go to school, work hard and stay [in] control of ur life. Reality tv ruins people’s lives and futures.” These tweets were later deleted.

Stoltz wrote that she wanted viewers to “know the truth” about the producers’ tactics, and encouraged Twitter users to ask her questions about the show so that they could be informed. Stoltz also tweeted at a journalist who she felt had misinterpreted the reason why the star was shown crying in a recent promo.

“I was upset because the producers keep us in a room for hours and ask the same questions over and over — they’re relentless,” the aspiring fashion designer tweeted at the journalist. “If we don’t give them the answer they want, they keep us in there until we cry or give them the answer they want.”

When asked by a fan about her “Crazy Kate” scenes in season 1, Stoltz replied, “The producers told me I was too boring and threatened to kick me off the show, so I did things to make them stop pressuring.”

Another fan tweeted at Stoltz that the situations she was describing sounded like the actions of the cutthroat reality TV bosses on the scripted Lifetime series UnREAL, and the Breaking Amish breakout replied about reality TV producers, “I don’t know how they sleep at night.”

A show rep did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the tweets. Us Weekly exclusively posted a clip last week from Return to Amish’s season 3 premiere that showed Stoltz explaining why she doesn’t regret having “completely cut ties” with her hometown Amish friends.

Stoltz’s posts, including a number of since-deleted ones, are below. Return to Amish airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
