Stephen Colbert Compares Ryan Lochte to Donald Trump: Watch!

His turn! Stephen Colbert poked fun at Ryan Lochte and the Rio robbery controversy that has been surrounding the Olympian during The Late Show on Monday, August 22.

The comedian, 52, dedicated most of his monologue to Lochte, 32, getting the most laughs when he compared him to GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“And now the whole world thinks that Ryan Lochte is that crazy American with the weird hair who keeps making stuff up and causing an international incident, which is not how an Olympian acts,” Colbert said. “That is how a presidential candidate acts.”

As previously reported, Lochte claimed that he and three of his swimming teammates — Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Gunnar Bentz — were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last week. Brazilian officials claimed that they actually vandalized the property, and Lochte later backtracked in an interview with the Today show’s Matt Lauer.

“I just want to say, ‘Guys, you stopped at a gas station for a pee break?’ Come on, you’re Olympic swimmers. You spend 90 percent of your life in a public pool. That’s what the chlorine is for. Come on, we’re all adults,” Colbert joked on Monday.

“[Lochte said] he overexaggerated,” he continued. “Here’s an example, if he said he understood what the word lie means, that would be an overexaggeration.”

Colbert took it one step further still. The late-night host edited Lauer’s exclusive interview with Lochte for his own amusement. He asked his own questions and shined a light in the athlete’s eyes while still using Lochte’s original answers.

Lochte might be the only one not laughing. Amid the scandal, Speedo, Ralph Lauren, Airweave and Gentle Hair Removal have all pulled their sponsorships with the star, costing him millions. He has yet to be banned from the sport.
