Why, Dwight, why?! After that shocking ending of The Walking Dead aired on the Sunday, March 27, episode, actor Austin Amelio, who plays Dwight, reacted to his character potentially killing off beloved core cast member Daryl (Norman Reedus).
As witnessed in the brutal final moments of the episode, Dwight shoots Daryl in a clearing where Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) were found bound and gagged. After the gunshot resonates through the woods, blood splatters all over the camera and the scene cuts to black. Dwight is then heard saying: "You'll be all right" — but could it be true? Did the showrunners kill off Daryl?

"He doesn’t have an intention on killing him," Amelio told Tech Insider on Sunday night. "[Dwight]'s been through a rough patch and I think he wants to show that he means business, and he knows that by shooting him he gets his point across."
Indeed, Dwight did shoot Daryl, but in a non-life-threatening spot, he said. "I could have gone for the head," Amelio continued to the outlet. "I didn’t. I went for the right shoulder. He’s not going to die. He’ll be okay."
Reedus, meanwhile, reacted to the cliffhanger and played coy in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I mean, that’s Daryl’s blood that you see. That’s exactly what happens, exactly what you see. So that’s the world that we live in. The fight between Daryl and Dwight is very real — that sort of fight on who you are and who you’re becoming and what you’ve given up is very real right now, and I think Daryl’s making that as real as possible with him. He’s forcing him into that eyeball to eyeball right now," Reedus, 47, remarked. "Who is that guy? You don’t even know who he’s saying that to, to be honest."
