Everything We Know About ‘Sex/Life’ Season 2, Where the Cast Stands

Round two? Netflix’s Sex/Life hooked fans in with its sexy and steamy story line leading many viewers to ask for more. The show, which is based off BB Easton’s novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men, premiered on the streaming site in June 2021 and viewers haven’t stopped talking about it since. The love triangle between Billie (Sarah Shahi), her husband Cooper (Mike Vogel) and Billie’s former lover Brad (Adam Demos) is captivating and controversial. Throughout season 1, Billie yearns for the sex life she had with Brad while trying to keep things intact on the home front with Cooper, all the while reconnecting with herself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=657Se_hr78s The complex female lead is what drew Shahi — who met Demos, her real-life boyfriend, on set — to the character in the first place. Billie’s three-dimensional personality even had the actress rooting for a second season, just like the show’s diehard fans. “I have always been trying to get into projects like this. I just never got hired,” the actress told Us Weekly exclusively on the “Watch With Us” podcast in June 2021. “Everyone was always trying to hire me to be the tough chick and paid me to keep my clothes on. I’ve been wanting to be a bit risky and cry and show emotional vulnerability for a while now.” The fact that this project is written by a woman and directed by all women also intrigued the Chicago Fire alum. [sendtonews type="float" key="oNRjT5KrWQ-2841098-14453"] “It was just such an ability to stand for something, to stand for femininity, to be able to be a voice in a way that I felt was really important for women across the globe,” she explained. “You can be a mom and still want to be the sexual goddess at the same time. The two don’t have to lose one for the other.” The season’s ending left the audience with a lot of unanswered questions as well, which Shahi told Us she hoped the cast can “go into and explore” if the drama gets picked up for more episodes. The Cliffhanger

After Shahi’s character, Billie, admitted that she wants to keep her relationship with her husband — but also sleep with her ex-boyfriend — at the end of season 1, the Rookie alum told Us that another chapter would hopefully reveal whether she gets both.

“I think that’s the question. That is the age-old question: Can you have it all? She’s a character who loves her life, but it’s not enough,” she told Us in June 2021. “She wants the stability of a relationship, and she wants the danger of a relationship and the unpredictability of a relationship. She wants to be a great mom, and she wants to go to school and get her degree and work. So, it’s like, these are the things that hopefully if we get a season 2, we’ll be able to go into and explore.”

What Sarah Says

"We don't know, and I just hope these stories continue to spiral even more down the rabbit hole that they already have," the L Word alum told Entertainment Tonight in June 2021. "Billie's gotta live in this complex world. She's sexual and she's unhappy and she's happy. There's just a circus of things to explore with her. So, I hope we get another chance to do it again because I sure do love Billie a lot."

The Numbers Are Great

"Fingers crossed!" Shahi responded during a fan Q&A in July 2021, when asked about a possible second season. "We've been in the Top 10 for over a week in 86 countries, including the U.S. and that's bananas! But Netflix also really cares how many people watch the whole thing in the first 28 days, so encourage your friends to finish if they haven't yet."

What BB Easton Thinks

The author, whose work inspired the Netflix series, would “absolutely” be up for working on another installment. "There is a lot of talk about season two and I have high hopes just because of the response worldwide," Easton told the U.K.’s Daily Express in July 2021. "It's number one in the UK and it has been for a while, so I am very hopeful." She noted that she’s been thinking about writing another memoir about “all of the funny and sexy things that have happened since that book came out” and would “definitely want to keep it going."

The streaming giant has yet to announce whether the series has been picked up for another season.

Who Would Be In It?

Based on where the story left off in season 1, fans can hopefully expect to see the four main actors, Shahi, Demos, Vogel and Margaret Odette (who plays Sasha Snow), back if the project gets the green light.

“You’re only as good as your scene partner and they are so phenomenal,” Shahi exclusively told Us of Vogel and Demos while promoting the show. “They made my job very easy and they’re both easy to look at. So, oftentimes, I would joke with my mom, I’d just say, ‘I’m going into work,’ and she’d be like, ‘That’s not work because you got to work with Mike and Adam. That’s not called work.’ … [As a group,] we instantly had chemistry.”

It's Happening

In September, Netflix announced the show had been renewed for a second season. “Sex/Life is a dream come true. To create a show about empowered female sexuality that has entranced so many millions of viewers is not only immensely fun but also incredibly gratifying,” creator Stacy Rukeyser said at the time. “When I think about all the women who have reached out from all over the world to say that the show speaks to them in a deeply personal way, I am so inspired. I’m thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue telling this story for Billie, and for all of us.”

New Additions

In February 2022, it was announced that Craig Bierko, Cleo Anthony, Darius Homayoun, Dylan Bruce and Wallis Day will be joining the cast for season 2.

Is There a ’Sex/Life’ Season 2 Trailer?

The streaming service released a teaser — which can be seen above — for the show’s sophomore season on February 2. In the clip, different couples can be seen getting intimate with new and old partners as Shahi’s Billie narrates. 

“Not everyone has it. The desire to wake up, stop sleepwalking through life, to stop trying to do the right thing while denying our truth,” she says. “But those of us who do, we tread in dangerous waters. Because once you wake up, once you get even a tiny taste, there’s no going back.”
