‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ Stars: Where Are They Now?

Far from reality? Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family knew how to stir up controversy on their former show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The reality series aired on TLC from 2012 to 2014. The family initially became famous after Thompson appeared as a beauty pageant contestant on Toddlers & Tiaras before landing their own show. The network canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in October 2014 after a report that Thompson’s mother, June “Mama June” Shannon, was dating a registered sex offender. “TLC has canceled the series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately,” the network told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being.” The family returned to reality television in February 2017 in the WE tv series Mama June: From Not to Hot. Shannon faced legal trouble in March 2019 when she was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She avoided jail time and agreed to complete 100 hours of community service. [sendtonews type="float" key="GiXTunov6y-2838988-14453"] Ahead of her 16th birthday, Thompson posed for a photo shoot with Teen Vogue and reflected on her former status as a child star. “They are completely two different people,” she said in August 2021 of her past persona and present self. “I would say that I do like this Alana now, rather than the younger Alana.” The TV personality insisted that she did “not care” if the world accepted her more mature appearance as she continued to grow up. “I guess people still expect me to be little Honey Boo Boo, and I’m not anymore,” she explained. “Just because I’m from the South, people expect me to be all country bumpkin, out riding four wheelers all the time, but that’s not really how it is. … As long as I like myself, I’m good.” Stardom at a young age impacted Thompson’s life for years to come. “To be honest, I do not have many friends. Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson

The former child star went on to appear on Mama June: From Not to Hot as well as compete on Dancing With the Stars: Juniors and The Masked Singer. Her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon was granted legal guardianship over her after their mother’s arrest. Thompson revealed in August 2021 that she hopes to become a neonatal nurse.

June ‘Mama June’ Shannon

After appearing on Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars from 2015 to 2016, June began documenting her weight loss journey on Mama June: From Not to Hot, which premiered in 2017 and was later renamed Mama June: Road to Redemption. She was arrested in March 2019 for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia but avoided jail time by completing community service. The reality star exclusively told Us in March 2021 that she was “14 months sober” and focused on rebuilding her finances and her relationships with her family.

Mike ‘Sugar Bear’ Thompson

Alana’s dad still appears on the Mama June spinoff from time to time. He married wife Jennifer Lamb in January 2017.

Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Shannon

Lauryn has continued her reality TV run alongside her family on Mama June’s show. In addition to being Alana’s legal guardian, she welcomed daughter Ella in December 2017 and son Bentley in July 2021. She shares her two kids with Joshua Efird, whom she married in April 2018.

Jessica ‘Chubbs’ Shannon

Jessica did not initially appear on Mama June: From Not to Hot because she was away at college, but she has since joined the show. In 2020, she revealed that she underwent an $80,895 makeover that involved weight loss surgery, liposuction, a tummy tuck and veneers.

Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell

Unlike her siblings, Cardwell has not made an appearance on her mother’s reality show. She welcomed daughter Kaitlyn in 2012. After marrying Michael Cardwell in May 2014, she gave birth to their daughter, Kylee, in 2015, but the pair separated in 2017. In a May 2021 Instagram post, Cardwell said that she works at a gas station. The former TV personality revealed in March 2020 that she got breast implants and veneers.
