Everything We Know About Miranda Lambert’s New Album ‘Wildcard’

A new chapter! Miranda Lambert is gearing up for the release of her seventh studio album, Wildcard. “I’m so excited,” the country superstar, 35, told Billboard in July. “I’m very ready. Having time off to write was great. I got to live some life for a little bit, which helps, but I’m definitely really excited to have new music to play on the road.” The disc will be Lambert’s first since her secret wedding to police officer Brendan McLoughlin in January, which she publicly announced on Valentine’s Day. (She was previously married to Blake Shelton from 2011 to 2015.) “They’re not going to let me have eight months off ever again because I get married and do weird s--t,” the singer-songwriter joked to Chicago’s US 99.5 FM in July. “I had the longest break I’ve ever had in 17 years — this year, the last year — so I’m a little nervous [to be back].” Lambert described her latest project as “a little more upbeat than” her 2016 double album, The Weight of These Wings, which won Album of the Year at the 2017 ACM Awards. “There’s some positive things … and it just reflects where I am in life,” she told Billboard. The Cover Art

Lambert unveiled the artwork for the record on Instagram on August 15, the same day it became available to preorder. The mostly yellow cover image features the entertainer smirking with a crossword book in one hand and a pencil in the other, resting against her cheek.

The Release Date

Wildcard hits stores, digital retailers and streaming services on November 1. The release comes almost exactly three years after The Weight of These Wings.

The Lead Single

The Nashville Star alum gave fans a sneak peek of the album on July 18 when she dropped the cheeky first single, “It All Comes Out in the Wash.” That same day, she surprise-released another song titled “Locomotive,” which she had previewed at the 2019 CMA Music Festival a month earlier.

Wildcard has 14 tracks, all of which Lambert cowrote: “White Trash,” “Mess With My Head,” “It All Comes Out in the Wash,” “Settling Down,” “Holy Water,” “Way Too Pretty for Prison,” “Locomotive,” “Bluebird,” “How Dare You Love,” “Fire Escape,” “Pretty Bitchin’,” “Tequila Does,” “Track Record” and “Dark Bars.”

The Collaborations

The two-time Grammy winner forwent features on her 2016 record, but she tapped her friend Maren Morris for “Way Too Pretty for Prison,” Wildcard’s only collaboration.

The Tour

Lambert launches her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour in Uncasville, Connecticut, on September 13. It concludes in Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 23. The tour’s all-female roster includes Morris, Elle King, Pistol Annies (Lambert’s supergroup), Tenille Townes, Ashley McBryde and Caylee Hammack.
