Baring it all! Fans met Rodney Mathews on the season 18 premiere of The Bachelorette in October — but after his one-on-one date with Michelle Young they will see a whole other side of him. The 29-year-old contestant is described as a “glass-half-full kind of guy” in his ABC Bio since he was able to “pick himself up” and redirect his “ambition” following a career-ending football injury in college. When it comes to finding The One, Rodney is searching for an “honest, active and ideally a former student athlete like himself” with whom he can find a deep mental connection” and also “laugh with every day.” According to his bio, he “knows exactly what he wants and he is looking for someone who has that clear vision too – he's done wasting time and is ready to be wifed-up!” The former football player’s ability to laugh with his partner will be put to the test on his first solo date with Michelle, 28, during the Tuesday, November 2, episode of the dating series. 1. He Played College Football

The California native played football for California State University, Fresno from 2013 to 2015. He graduated from college in May 2015.

2. He Works in Sales

Rodney began his career as a service advisor at Toyota before working as an associate sales representative at Smith & Nephew. He has been an outside sales representative for Cintas since May 2018.

3. He Previously Coached High School Football

In November 2017, he gushed over working with Claremont High School’s varsity football coach, Shane Hile, in California. “I'm still very proud of our kids and thankful for Coach Hile for giving me this opportunity,” Rodney captioned a series of photos from the season via Instagram. “Can't wait for next season 🐺 #CoachRod #OnePack.”

4. He Had a Broadcasting Internship in College

The Fresno State alum majored in mass communication and media studies, which led to an internship for ABC 30 during his final semester of school in the spring of 2015.

5. He’s Very Close With His Family

Rodney has a younger brother named Royal whom he is very tight with. He also has a strong bond with their mother, whom he calls “Wonder Woman” for raising the two boys solo.
