‘Southern Charm’ Recap: Craig Sets ‘Boundaries’ With Ex Naomie After Hookup, Olivia Is ‘Over’ Dramatic Austen Romance

Seeing eye to eye? Multiple Southern Charm stars faced awkward relationship conversations during this week’s episode, with exes Craig Conover and Naomie Olindo taking the cake. Craig, 33, and Naomie, 29, dated for three years before splitting in 2017. Following their Las Vegas hookup, which came to light during the season 8 premiere in June, the twosome have been trying to figure out how to be friends. While the Sewing Down South founder has since moved on with Paige DeSorbo, his relationship with Naomie continues to influence his day-to-day in Charleston. Paige, 29, initially appeared to be OK with Craig hooking up with Naomie in 2021 but has since asked him not to see her one-on-one to which he agreed. During the Thursday, August 4, episode, Craig reluctantly meet up with Naomie to talk about her and Chleb Ravenell’s strange chat about Kathryn Dennis — and things got uncomfortable to say the least. “One of the lessons that I learned after everything happened with me and you, is never air your dirty laundry with other people,” Naomie told Craig after explaining that Chleb, 33, was bashing his then-girlfriend Kathryn, 30, during Olivia Flowers’ oyster roast one week prior. The L’Abeye founder revealed that she has “apologized” for speaking ill of Craig in the past and noted, “I have so many regrets about that.” But her heartfelt remarks were met by crickets on Craig’s end. “Craig is making me really uncomfortable. He’s, like, jittery,” Naomie said during a confessional interview. “Not making eye contact. Craig eventually mustered up the courage to tell his ex-girlfriend that there needed to be “boundaries” between them now that he is dating Paige exclusively. “I think that Paige is being very understanding even though she doesn’t understand it because she lives in New York where you don’t run into your exes,” he said in a confessional chat. “She has been patient with me hooking up with Naomie while me and Paige were figuring stuff out. I don’t want to push it by disrespecting her any further.” Naomie, for her part, was shocked by Craig’s comments but didn’t argue. “I’m not trying to get with Craig if he has a girlfriend. That’s just not how I am,” she told the cameras. “If Craig and Paige feel awkward that’s on them, not me.” During episode 7, Austen Kroll also found himself dealing with an awkward relationship. Romance on Hold?

Austen and Olivia seemed to hit a rough patch in their romance with the beermaker telling Kathryn that he hadn’t spoken to the photographer since her family’s oyster roast. “It just bothered me that even after I talked to her she decided to invite my ex to her party,” he confessed, referring to Madison, 31. (Madison announced in October 2021 that she is engaged to Brett Randle.)

During the episode, Olivia confided in her mother that things were strained between her and Austen after she appeared to be buddy-buddy with Madison. “We didn’t really end on the best note at our party,” Olivia explained, noting that “It’s just dumb and I’m so over it.” Olivia further insisted during a confessional interview, “This situation with Austen is just too much work. I’m just not enough drama for Austen because that seems like what he’s into.”

On Different Pages

Shep Rose and Taylor Ann Green continued to head in different directions during episode 7. While Shep, 42, said, “Taylor’s not the pressure type of gal” when it comes to marriage, Taylor, 27, confessed that she already has her future planned out.

“I think I may be in the clear as far as marriage is concerned,” Shep joked to Patricia Altschul and Whitney Smith. Taylor, meanwhile, was seen geeking out over Shep’s cousin Marcie’s baby’s room.

“In my perfect world, I would get married at maybe 30, 31. Starting [to have] kids by 32, 33,” the clinical assistant said in a confessional. “Shep’s clock might not be ticking, but mine is.” (Us Weekly confirmed on July 20 that Shep and Taylor had called it quits.)

Trouble Is Brewing

“In my gut, something is off,” Kathryn told Austen while getting a pedicure, referring to her on-off relationship with Chleb. The mother of two, who shares Kensie, 8, and Saint, 6, with Thomas Ravenel, confessed that after Chleb was seen talking with Naomie at Olivia’s party a week earlier, she started to have reservations about his loyalty. She added: It was weird. I feel like it was super disrespectful. I feel really hurt.”

Chleb, for his part, spoke with his mother about the ongoing tension between him and Kathryn. He admitted that speaking with Naomie “bit me in the ass” since the two girls “dislike each other.” The former football player later told the cameras, “In my heart, I don’t want to be in a relationship with someone I’m thinking negatively about,” referring to his reservations with Kathryn.

Us exclusively confirmed in November 2021 that Kathryn and Chleb split for good.

Burying the Hatchet

Venita Aspen had a heart-to-heart with her mother during the show, pointing to her parents’ breakup as one of the reasons she had handled the Olivia drama so poorly. “I had a bad week. I wasn’t invited to Olivia’s party. My feelings are hurt,” the 28-year-old influencer said, admitting that she doesn’t know “how to go about it” when fixing things.

“You don’t show me how to handle things because you hid that with you and daddy a lot,” Venita explained, to which her mother replied, “I just wanted to protect you from the pitfalls in life.” (Venita’s dad left when she was in high school and her mother never really spoke about it, according to her daughter.)

Despite feeling uncomfortable with confrontation, Venita did meet up with Olivia and they finally squashed their beef. “You and I had a rocky start so I want to be able to lay it all out on the table,” Venita began the conversation. Olivia replied, “I think you have a very false assumption of who I am. Insinuating something there — that was not cool to me. I can understand why walking away can be perceived as dismissive but in my mind it’s just a way to cool off.”

Venita revealed that she could see where Olivia was coming from after their blow out at the garden party and said sorry for her part in the fight. “I apologize for coming at you hot like that. That’s not who I am as an individual,” she added. “This is going to be a clean slate.”

Awkward Exes

Despite vowing to stop hanging out with Naomie one-on-one, Craig met up with his ex-girlfriend for coffee to discuss her drama with Chleb. The France native confided in Craig about the awkward chat she had with Chleb at Olivia’s party in hopes that he would tell Kathryn.

“He just starts going in about Kathryn. He was saying some not nice things,” Naomie told Craig about Chleb. “He just didn’t seem happy.” While she sensed hesitation on the Delaware native’s part, Naomie continued, saying, “I felt really bad for Kathryn and not in a condescending way. Like genuinely feel bad for her as a person. She and I will never be good friends. I just feel like it’s the right thing to do to hand you this information. Just talk to her.”

Craig agreed to talk to Kathryn before cutting the coffee date short to go pick up Paige. Naomie, however, was thrown for a loop when the former law student then told her that he didn’t think they should hang out anymore. “Unfortunately, there are still boundaries at the end of the day that have to be there,” Craig explained. “I like that we can be friends. My path is taking me [toward] a relationship with Paige. At the end of the day, you are my ex-girlfriend and it’s just not appropriate to hang just yet.”

While Naomie thought he was kidding, she nodded her head and left the meeting on good terms with her former flame. The businesswoman later confessed to the cameras, “If I thought that we weren’t on the same page I wouldn’t have asked Craig to get coffee. I’m not a weirdo.”

A Puppy Affair

Patricia, 81, will do anything for a party! The southern belle convinced Shep to have a dog wedding for her pup Peaches and his furry friend Little Craig. She claimed, “Peaches was involved in a violation of sorts” at the hands of the French Bulldog.

“I think Little Craig has to do the honorable thing. I would like to have a wedding,” Patricia told Shep, to which he replied, “So let’s give you the wedding you so richly deserve.” The socialite then ran with the idea, hiring a wedding planner and setting a date for the following week. Fans, however, won’t see the nuptials until episode 8.
