‘Summer House’ Season 7 Premiere Recap: Lindsay and Carl’s Romance Causes Tension and Kyle Is Not OK With the ‘New Normal’

A salty start? Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke’s romance caused tension during the season 7 Summer House premiere — and Kyle Cooke wasn’t on board with the drama. “I just fell in love with my best friend,” Lindsay, 36, confessed during the Monday, February 13, premiere, confirming that she and Carl, 38, had moved in together two weeks prior to filming in summer 2022. “I am living that rom-com movie, like, in real life.” While the Hubb House PR founder — who started the episode seducing her then-boyfriend wearing a sexy nurse costume — was happy with her love life, it was clear that her housemates weren’t as thrilled. (Us Weekly confirmed that Lindsay and Carl are engaged.) Ahead of Lindsay and Carl’s arrival in the Hamptons, Mya Allen and Kyle, 40, both revealed that they were somewhat at odds with the lovebirds. “We haven’t spoken since February,” Mya, 30, told pals Amanda Batula and Paige DeSorbo and newbie Gabby Prescod. “Lindsay is mad at me and she doesn’t want me to have a relationship with Carl. She said that I wanted Carl in a sexual way.” The cookie maker later told the cameras that she was confronted by Lindsay in February 2022 after the group filmed an episode of Family Feud in Los Angeles. “I was in the car with Lindsay going back to the hotel, I was like, I just texted Carl, ‘LOL, maybe we’ll smoke a j.’ I smoked many a joints with Carl. It was so innocent,” Mya recalled. “That’s when she told me that I was not respectful of their relationship. Kyle and Carl work together at Loverboy, which has only added to the stress between the pair. “I love Kyle to death, but we work together. We spend a lot of time with each other,” Carl told the cameras after joking that he wished there were more guys in the house than Kyle to talk with all summer. “And to be honest, lately, it’s been a little rocky. Still trying to figure out, is Loverboy for me. It would be nice to mix it up a little bit.” The strain between the men became even more clear when Carl chose to go to bed early with Lindsay instead of staying up with Kyle all night. “I take the mood and the vibe of the house very seriously. I want them to immediately fit in. I just don’t know what to expect,” Kyle said during a confessional. The Maryland native showed his frustration at Carl being standoffish while standing alone in the kitchen. “If this is the new normal, I’m going to jump out of my window,” Kyle drunkenly said. “I’m so f—king bored right now.” However, the bromance between Kyle and Carl isn’t the only drama that will plague the housemates this season. In the final few moments of the episode, Bravo teased what’s to come during season 7, including a massive blowout between Danielle Olivera and Lindsay that divides the group. Paige, 30, and Craig Conover’s future will seemingly be tested as their romance progresses and fans will see how Carl proposed to Lindsay. Plus, Winter House star Kory Keefer is set to make a cameo. New Kids on the Block

Fans were introduced to three new housemates: Chris Leoni, Sam Feher and Gabby, 32. Chris, 30, is a friend of Kyle, who works as a photographer. The Florida native later revealed that he was in the Marines before relocating to New York.

Sam, meanwhile, is only 25 years old and had an instant “vibe” with Chris. The New Jersey native told the crew that she worked as a model and in the magazine world before becoming a content creator.

Paige, for her part, brought Gabby with her when she arrived at the vacation house. “I met Gabby at a dinner and we both got drunk and she told me about her horoscope,” the stylist said during a confessional. Gabby, who is a fashion editor, described herself as “a Taurus son with a Leo rising and I’m a Scorpio moon. And a general mess, I wanna say, on a good day.”

Mya Confronts Carl Over Lindsay Fallout

Mya told her housemates that she’d had a falling out with Lindsay and Carl in February 2022 after the publicist accused her of having romantic feelings for her then-boyfriend. “I’m not that girl,” Mya told the cameras.

The Knead cookie founder proceeded to pull Carl aside on the first night of summer to try and clear the air. During the conversation, Mya explained that when she texted him while in the car with Lindsay to smoke weed together, she had no idea that he’d been struggling with his sobriety. (Carl stopped drinking in 2021, but as of early 2022 had also minimized his weed intake.)

“It seems like you guys are very happy. I’m in support of your relationship,” Mya told Carl, before revealing, “I had a really, really bad conversation with Lindsay. I was told that it was not appropriate to speak to you. She spoke to me like I was not a human.”

Carl explained: “I’m just learning that was said. I wasn’t in the car with you girls.” However, he noted, “My priority is her and our relationship.”

Lindsay later told her partner that she is “allowed to set boundaries without feeling guilty,” to which Carl agreed. “Carl was struggling with his own sobriety around the holidays. I [then] have Mya doing the opposite of that,” Lindsay told the cameras. “I will not tolerate this being another summer of everything being on Lindsay.”

Carl and Lindsay’s 'New Normal’

The twosome’s relationship dynamic was front and center during the premiere. “We are a match made …” Carl playfully told his then-girlfriend while driving to the Hamptons, to which Lindsay replied, “In the Hamptons.” Carl chimed in, “Heaven!”

“Lindsay’s always been such a light in my life. There’s very few people that I have dated in my life that I can be completely myself,” Carl gushed during a confessional interview. “With her, I literally can be Carl, and she likes that. I’m happy. I’m in love.”

Throughout the first weekend, Carl and Lindsay mainly kept to themselves. They went to bed early on night one and on night two, they left the group to go into their room and get some space.

While Lindsay explained that she was drinking again after previously becoming sober to help Carl, she wasn’t her usual wild self. The lack of fun — and constant couple time — rubbed a few people the wrong way.

In a surprising turn of events, Paige told the cameras that she and Lindsay were good. “Before we came into the summer, I texted Lindsay and said, ‘I don’t care about anything we’ve ever fought about.’ And she said, ‘I don’t either,’” she revealed.

Kyle and Carl Butt Heads Over Work

“Of all the nights that I’ve spent in the Hamptons, last night was the lamest of all time by 100 miles,” Kyle confided in Mya, referring to the early night in for Carl and Lindsay. “These are two of my best friends dating, you’d think I’d be jumping up and down.”

The entrepreneur confessed: “I thought I was going crazy. The guy just officiated my wedding and I can hardly recognize him.” Kyle pointed out that work has been “weird too” ever since Carl and Lindsay’s relationship became romantic.

“I’m so scared to death to talk to him. I actually want Carl and Lindsay to be amazing together,” he continued. “I don’t want him to be like, I don’t support him and Lindsay.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Kyle told his wife that he is “stressed out” about the awkwardness between him and Carl. “I’m not getting anything professionally and personally,” the Loverboy founder said, to which Amanda responded, “You had single Carl for so long. Just your buddy. It’s natural for things to be a little different once they start dating.”

Kyle, however, sensed that it wasn’t that “simple,” revealing, “The vibe that I’ve been picking up is he’s on the verge of just quitting.”

Carl, meanwhile, had a heart-to-heart with Lindsay about the situation. “Those conversations get harder because when you are around him out here, you’re reminded of how much you love him as a friend,” she explained after Carl made it clear that he and Kyle had yet to have a real conversation about their current dynamic.

Lindsay pointed out: “He’s filing that void of the older brother figure that you lost. However, you have a working relationship. He can’t be all of that. No matter what happens, he’s going to be let down. As long as you start accepting that now it’ll be an easier conversation.”
