The heartbreaking loss of Richard Gilmore (Edward Herrmann) could very well be the initial reason Rory (Alexis Bledel) finds herself making a “short trip” back to Stars Hollow, Connecticut. As series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino explained about the revival’s early going, “[A tragedy like that] brings up thoughts of ‘Where am I? Where am I going? What am I doing?’”
First, fans theorized that Lorelai (Lauren Graham) could be knocked up after this tease (her go-to craving when pregnant with Rory: an apple). Then the first trailer hit, and Emily (Kelly Bishop) seemingly addresses this question to Rory: “What bathroom will you use to throw up in?” Morning sickness, much? The reasons appear endless — but there’s also Bledel saying herself, “There might be things to celebrate!”
Or could it be a flashback? It’s possible it could just be a chance run-in amid Rory contemplating the men of her past. As Jared Padalecki confirmed to Us, he filmed for just one day — specifically at Dean’s old workplace, Doose’s Market. "It's a nice, a really nice scene that gave me closure."
He was the bad boy who challenged her in all the wrong ways, came back as a better man (we still swoon over him dedicating his book to her in season 6) and, in the trailer, tells her she’s “still a contender.” Need more convincing? Twitter’s all over it.
Maybe she’s just there for Career Day. (Oh hey, Paris Geller). Or maybe she was inspired by her late grandfather to take up teaching. Perhaps she wants to channel her former English teacher Max Medina?! Either way, it’s nice seeing her at her old private school stomping grounds.
Despite the controversial return of Christopher (David Sutcliffe) and Lorelai saying in the trailer, “I thought I knew exactly what I wanted,” things still seem solid for her and Luke (Scott Patterson). Besides, their wedding could finally be in the works...
Sherman-Palladino has teased Us endlessly about four final words nicely wrapping up the series (she’s had these words in mind since the beginning!). Some popular predictions: Luke and Lorelai saying, “I do”/“Me too,” and “Look, another Gilmore Girl.” But will that really be the end of Gilmore Girls once and for all? According to Patterson, maybe not!
