Jerry Stiller’s portrayal of Frank Costanza earned him an Emmy nomination, but the character’s first appearance featured John Randolph in the role. After Stiller landed the role of George’s (Jason Alexander) father for the remainder of the series, creator Larry David had him re-shoot Frank’s first scenes to keep it consistent in syndication.
