Who Is Trevor Holmes? ‘American Idol’ Alum Joins ‘The Bachelor’ Franchise on ‘Listen to Your Heart’

Trevor Holmes may have captured Katy Perry’s heart on American Idol, but the aspiring musician is still looking for love. The 29-year-old singer started his career on YouTube and Vine before competing on American Idol in 2018. While he made it several rounds in the competition, Holmes was sent home just before the Top 24. Now, the California resident is hoping to find a partner — in love and in music — on The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart. “Some people have been grinding at this for forever,” host Chris Harrison told Us Weekly exclusively about the contestants on the spinoff. “[Trevor] was just on American Idol, someone came out of their church choir, musical theater, you name it. They all want that relationship. And they know it’s tough to find being a musician.” Holmes teased his role on the show in a lengthy Instagram caption ahead of the Monday, April 13, premiere. [sendtonews type="float" key="0G08wSsl9c-3116090-14453"] “I was going to caption this with a bunch of stuff about how tomorrow starts a new chapter of my life and all that stuff. And though that is true, I’m mostly just hoping that this show will let everyone tune in and forget about their stress and problems for a couple hours each week,” Holmes wrote alongside a photo of him and Harrison in the driveway of the mansion on night one. “This has been such a crazy scary time in life for everyone. When we filmed this show, we had no idea the turmoil the world would be in when it aired. Proud to be a part of something bigger than me that can hopefully give some temporary emotional relief.” He went on to thank his nearly 200,000 followers on the social media platform. “To all of my current followers before this show airs, some of you have been following my journey since 2009,” Holmes wrote. “I’m forever grateful for your support. I will love and appreciate you forever. Just wanted to say that now before the potential new followers come after air date. Katy Perry Loved Him

While Holmes won over Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie during his American Idol audition, Perry was infatuated with him. The “Teenage Dream” singer, who is now engaged to Orlando Bloom, referred to Holmes as “so hot” and a “dreamboat” as soon as he walked in.

"I am singing my heart out and she is there, flirting with me. You can't really put it into words,” Holmes said on Good Morning America in March 2018. “Everybody growing up, you always have this celebrity crush that you never think you will actually meet.”

His Breakup With Sierra Was Messy

Holmes’ then-girlfriend, Sierra Nielsen, was by his side during his American Idol journey. She confirmed in September 2018 that the twosome called it quits.

“Walking away from anything thats unhealthy or causing you pain is one of the most difficult acts of self love. But one of the most powerful. Recently I was faced with just that… Walking away from my relationship...💔” the trainer wrote at the time. “Leaving was one of the hardest things I’ve done. But I had to leave out of LOVE FOR MYSELF. My heart was not being protected. It was not receiving the respect, loyalty, honesty and love it SO deserves. 🙏🏻 The past few weeks have been filled with pain, anger, tears, confusion, hurt, grief AND compassion while learning to forgive myself for allowing much less than I deserve for far too long. While also being gentle with myself & learning not to regret loving so hard. For giving it all I had. And for finally standing up for me.”

Nielsen alleged that she was betrayed in the split. “I’ve come to realize that while these wounds from his betrayals may not be my fault, they are indeed my responsibility to heal. So now it is up to ME to show myself the love I’ve been missing. To honor myself,” she wrote. “I know infidelity & deceit come with a lot of pain & heartache. Taboo or not, I’ve always vowed to be honest, to share my heart & to create space for the hard stuff. I’m choosing to share my truth in hopes it reaches at least one of you who may be in the same position. I hope it gives you the courage to choose YOU sooner rather than later. To stop ignoring & forgiving constant unhealthy & unfaithful patterns. To not lose respect for yourself in the process of trying to save someone else.”
