Although the X Factor franchise is best known for bringing fun and entertainment to fans all over the world, the music competition created by Simon Cowell has also faced a lot of tragedies since its inception in 2004, including the death of former contestants and their family members. In June 2022, X Factor alum Tom Mann revealed that his fiancée, Dani Hampson, tragically died on what would have been their wedding day. “I can’t believe I am writing these words but my darling Dani – my best friend, my everything and more, the love of my life – passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning, 18th June,” Mann shared via Instagram at the time with a photo of Hampson holding their son, Bowie. “What was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives ended in irreversible heartbreak. I feel like I have cried an ocean," the "Stand By" singer continued. “We never made it to the alter [sic]; or got to say our vows, or dance our first dance, but I know you know that you were my entire world and the best thing that has ever happened to me, Danielle. I will wear this ring that I was always supposed to wear as a sign of my unconditional love to you.” Mann went on to promise that he will do his best to be a father to Bowie with all the "strength" he could "muster." “I will not be a mark on the parent that you had already become but I promise I will do my everything to raise Bowie just the way we always wanted,” the Stereo Kicks band member wrote. “I promise you he will know how amazing his mummy was. I promise to make you so so proud.” Days later, Mann took to Instagram once more to express his unwavering grief. “There are honestly no words to describe how much I miss you, Dan,” the U.K. native expressed via Instagram Stories on June 26. “Forever & always.” Mann and Hampson, who began dating in 2016, were originally set to get married in 2022. Hampson's cause of death is still unknown. She was 34 years old.

Simone Battle

Battle, who competed on X Factor in 2011 and was a member of the girl group G.R.L., died by suicide in September 2014. 

"I am so sad to hear about the news Simone Battle has passed away," Simon Cowell tweeted at the time. "She was such a fun nice person. It's such a loss. Rest in peace Simone."

Battle was 25 years old.

Kerry McGregor

McGregor appeared on X Factor in 2006. 

In 2010, she was diagnosed was bladder cancer. Two years later, she died. "It is with deep sadness we announce that Kerry has passed away at home earlier today following a battle with a cancer," her management company said in a statement at the time.

Louis Tomlinson and Felicite Tomlinson

Tomlinson, who competed on X Factor in 2009 and 2010, later joined the world-famous boyband One Direction. 

Sadly, in September 2019, his sister, Felicite, died of drug toxcitity at 18 years old.

Deangelo Wallace

In July 2021, Wallace, who auditioned for X Factor in 2012, was found dead after being shot outside the Kansas City Police Station. 

"He was just a really beautiful person," his family told Fox 4 at the time.

Freddie Combs

Combs competed on the U.S. version of X Factor in 2012. 

In September 2021, he died from kidney failure. He is survived by his wife, Kay, who told TMZ at the time, "I have so much gratitude to be his wife for 25 years and to be his friend."

Thomas Wells

In November 2021, the former X Factor contestant died after getting caught in an automatic conveyer belt at his tire manufacturing job in Oklahoma. He was 46 years old.
