Though it’s true that Hollywood is a relatively small place — and many stars know each before acting together — sometimes a tasty meal or scrumptious dish is the key to establishing strong connections with one another. Take, for example, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Though Cooper acknowledged seeing his A Star Is Born costar in passing several times before casting her in the Oscar-winning film, the pair’s bond was solidified thanks to a bowl of leftover pasta. “I was hungry, she made me food,” Cooper told Conan O’Brien in September 2018 when asked about his early meetings with the “Alejandro” singer. He later said that Gaga’s meal made him feel “comfortable.” For other costars, such as the cast of the HBO show Camping, sharing food can be a great way to pass the time on set. The actor exclusively told Us in April 2020 that driving Gellar around and cooking for her is what helped build a foundation — and later a relationship — between him and his I Know What You Did Last Summer costar.

“She didn’t have a driver’s license. She didn’t know how to drive. And we were shooting in Southport, North Carolina, which was an hour’s drive from the nearest Wilmington, which was the biggest city that was closest to us,” Prinze Jr. said of his early friendship with now-wife Gellar. “I started driving her, and that’s when her and I became friends. And we just would talk about life and stuff like that, and we had completely different philosophies on just about everything.”

He added that in time, he started to cook for her because, “I thought she was too skinny.” The desire to feed the Ringer alum resulted in Prinze Jr. and Gellar having weekly barbeques with his family and friends.

Will Smith and the Aladdin Cast

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air alum endeared himself to his Aladdin costars, in part, by bringing various food trucks to the movie’s set. According to actress Naomi Scott, who plays Princess Jasmine in the film, one such truck specialized in mac and cheese and even offered several different types of the classic comfort food, which she deemed “amazing,” Delish reported in May 2019.

Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba

The L.A.’s Finest costars had known each other for years before sharing the small screen, and recalled connecting with one another over drinks back when they were both new to Hollywood. “We bonded years ago over tequila,” Union dished on The Late Late Show with James Corden in May 2019. According to the Bring It On alum, neither she nor Alba were particularly interested in being the center of attention on the young Hollywood party scene. “We were in the back, with the bartender, drinking tequila,” Union recalled. “We would often find each other at that bar, drinking tequila … that’s kind of how we bonded.”

For many, the A Star Is Born leads seemed like an unlikely pair, but as Cooper explained on Conan in September 2018, the duo bonded over a shared meal. “I was hungry, she made me food,” the American Hustle star said of one of his first encounters with the “Million Reasons” singer. Cooper went on to reveal that Gaga asked if he was hungry and then gave him some leftover pasta she had in the refrigerator. “It was insane,” he recalled, noting the Grammy winner also noshed on some noodles. “She made me feel so comfortable.”

Jennifer Garner and the Camping Cast

The Alias alum is known for being an avid cook and baker, so it’s no surprise that she used her culinary talents as a way to get closer to her castmates while filming the HBO series Camping. In May 2018, the show’s cocreator, Lena Dunham, tried a piece of Garner’s blueberry buckle cake on set and shared her thoughts on Instagram Stories. “I’m not going to give it a great review just because it was made by a Hollywood star,” the Girls alum said before a taking a bite. “Holy s—t. It’s so good. It’s so f—king good.” Dunham went on to give the confection six (out of five) stars.

The Hunger Games Cast

Though members of the movie’s cast were already fairly close by the time they shot Catching Fire – the second of four films in the dystopian saga – they further bonded with one another over a food-related incident that occurred while filming the flick in Hawaii. As star Josh Hutcherson told Moviefone in 2013, the mishap involved a pizza that his mom was supposed to order for the cast while they kayaked to a location that was 45 minutes away. The plan was to have Hutcherson’s mom order the pizza as the actors headed back from their adventure, so it would be waiting for them when they arrived, but as it turns out, the meal was never ordered. Star Jennifer Lawrence joked she had to engage in some “yoga breathing” to make it through the pizza-less ordeal.
