Celebs Trying Ordinary Foods for the First Time: Kylie Jenner Eating Cereal, Tom Brady Sampling a Strawberry and More

Celebrities aren’t always just like Us. While cereal and milk and strawberries are fairly common kitchen staples, some stars have gone decades without ever giving them a try. For example, Kylie Jenner’s first foray with cereal and milk occurred in September 2018 when the entrepreneurial reality star was 21 years old. Though cereal and milk is a popular (and tasty) pair, Jenner had always preferred dry cereal with no milk at all. Still, when she tried the combo of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and regular milk for the first time, she boldly called it “life-changing,” which led to some harmless teasing from Seth Rogen and other social media stars. Believe it or not, Jenner is hardly the only celeb to wait a decade or two to sink her teeth into an ordinary food. In a 2016 interview, NFL star and disciplined dieter Tom Brady revealed he had yet to consume a strawberry and had no interest in tasting one. “I’ve never eaten a strawberry in my life,” he said at the time. “I have no desire to do that.” Still despite that bold declaration, Brady tasted his first strawberry during a March 2018 stint on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and deemed the fruit “not bad.” Vanderpump Rules star Charli Burnett used her time on the show to challenge her past relationship with food. "I can't sit behind this anymore, I can't have this cloud over my head," the SUR waitress told costar Ariana Madix during a November 2021 episode. Burnett previously revealed that she struggled with trying new food because of how the topic was approached when she was a child. The Bravo personality credited her boyfriend, Corey Loftus, for helping her face the issues. "For 17 years, I ate the same food: pizza, PB&J, quesadillas, until I met Corey. And Corey was like, 'Absolutely not. We're not eating the same thing all the f--king time,'" she recalled during season 9 of Vanderpump Rules. Burnett reflected on her progress after hosting a gathering where her friends brought a variety of ordinary dishes for her to try. "I'm so excited. This is literally like a new chapter for me," she said while filming the reality series. The Wonder Woman 1984 star tried a handful of classic American dishes during a December 2020 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — and her life changed forever. "This is the best so far: flavorful, salty, different textures," Gadot raved as she bit into her first Taco Bell taco, her face lighting up with joy. "I'm going to have another bite."

Gadot was less impressed by eggnog and Ho-Hos snacks and later had Jimmy Fallon sample Israeli delicacies, including gefilte fish. "Not bad if they changed the way it looked and the packaging," the comedian teased.

During a chat with her pal Reese Witherspoon while in quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic in May 2020, the Oscar winner admitted she tried tequila for the first time. “I, like Renata, pretty much drink wine,” the Enlightened alum said, referencing her vino-guzzling Big Little Lies character. “That’s it, my whole life. I’ve never had cocktails.” When she finally did try tequila, the Marriage Story star was pleased. “It is as wonderful as everyone says,” she added. “I didn’t know.”

The Vanderpump Rules cast member shocked her costars when she revealed in season 8 of the show that she had never eaten pasta before, but the Bravo star put an end to her pasta-free diet in April 2020 when she finally tried the Italian staple. However, it wasn’t exactly a hit. “I don't f--k with it," she said during a Pump the Brakes interview. "I don't like it at all.”

Peter Weber Downs a Crab Rangoon

The Bachelor star tried the fish-filled dumpling for the first time during an episode of the ABC reality show that aired in February 2020. The shocking food first occurred when he was with contestant Kelsey Weier in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. As it turns out, the Virginia native, who travels for a living, is a fan of the popular food. “Oh my god. Yeah!” he exclaimed after his first taste. “That's good stuff!”

Kameron Westcott Samples Some Caviar

Caviar might not be considered an “ordinary” food, but it’s certainly a delicacy the Real Housewives of Dallas star has come across in her time as a fixture on the Texas social scene. However, per an Instagram Story, the Bravo personality tried fish eggs for the first time at a black-tie event in October 2019. "I'm scared!" she shared while holding a caviar-topped cracker in her hand. "This is the first time I've ever tried caviar, and it's only because I've had vodka." So what was the verdict? Westcott first said she was “not sure” about the fancy food, but the softened her stance a bit. “It's not too bad,” she concluded.

Brielle Biermann Gives Flamin’ Hot Cheetos a Try

The eldest daughter of Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kim Zolciak isn’t shy about her love of food (Chick-fil-A is a favorite) but until recently she hadn’t experienced the joy of one of America’s most beloved snack items. Kylie Jenner Eats Cereal and Milk for the First Time

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star shocked social media in September 2018 when she revealed that, at 21, she had just tried cereal and milk together for the first time. Apparently, the Kylie Cosmetics founder preferred dry cereal as a child (something mom Kris Jenner takes the blame for) and had simply never eaten the breakfast staple with milk or a non-dairy alternative. When Jenner finally did taste the popular combo together, she called it “life changing.”

Kendall Jenner Discovers Chocolate

Continuing with the strange eating habits of the Kar-Jenner clan, Kendall told Jimmy Fallon in February 2019 that she spent most of her life avoiding chocolate and had her first real taste of it while she was traveling (and ridiculously hungry) in 2018. She was 22 at the time. “I had gotten off an 11-hour flight, and then was getting on a six-hour flight. We hadn’t taken off yet so they didn’t have the food out and the only thing I saw was, like, a baby Twix,” the model explained to the SNL alum. “And I was like, ‘You know what, I am desperate, I’m going to try this Twix.’ So I tried and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ, this is really good.’ It’s so good!” Since then the reality star has been “obsessed” with chocolate, but she has yet to try a Hershey’s Kiss.

Tom Brady Samples His First Strawberry

The quarterback for the New England Patriots adheres to a very strict diet that forbids him from eating ordinary foods such as milk and certain vegetables, but his aversion to strawberries was purely personal. In March 2018, the pro athlete made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and confirmed an earlier report that a strawberry had never before touched his lips. “I just hate the smell,” he told Colbert. Still, when the talk show host took out a bowl of the plump red fruits, Brady agreed to give one a try. His verdict? “Not bad.”

Ice-T Has His First Bagel

Though the actor is a native of New Jersey, he declared on Twitter in November 2018 that he had never before eaten a bagel. The surprising reveal shocked fans and led some to even accuse him of lying, because he’s played characters that have, in fact, eaten bagels. “TV is make believe,” he retorted. When Ice-T finally did try a bagel several weeks later, he referred to the popular pastry as an “unsweetened doughnut” and deemed it “not bad.”

And Cup of Coffee

In that same November 2018 Twitter thread, the star also asserted that he had never before had a cup of coffee, despite existing and playing a New York City police office on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for 18 seasons. Unlike the bagel, the Bloodrunners star was less than impressed with the caffeinated beverage, which he described as “water with another taste kicked in later.” As he later said after taking his first sip of java: “This is my first time, and I can pretty much tell you this will be the last time I’ll ever drink black coffee.”

Tom Holland Enjoys His First Taste of Pumpkin

Though pumpkin pie and pumpkin-flavored treats are all the rage in America come autumn, things are apparently a bit different across the pond. The British Spider-Man: Homecoming star had his first taste of the orange gourd in November 2018 when award-winning chef Jessica Largey whipped up a savory dish for him to try. “I think I’ve had pumpkin seeds,” the actor said prior to tasting the dish. “But I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten a pumpkin.” After tasting the food for the first time, Holland called it “so good.”
