Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Network: NBC

NBC’s late-night program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon and is the seventh installation of the Tonight Show franchise. The show features The Roots as the house band and is broken up into segments including comedic sketches, games, celebrity guest interviews and musical performances or stand-up comedy.

The Tonight Show debuted in 1954 as Tonight and was hosted by Steve Allen until 1957. Jack Parr took over until 1962, followed by Johnny Carson until his retirement in 1992. Jay Leno filled Carson’s position, later passing the torch to Conan O’Brien in 2009. After O’Brien failed to pull in viewers, Leno was brought in for one more season before being replaced by Fallon in 2014. Fallon’s humor and musical skits helped transform The Tonight Show for a new audience.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has aired for 10 seasons and earned two Emmy Awards. NBC renewed the show in 2021 for five more years. September 2023, several former and current Tonight Show employees accused Fallon of creating a toxic workplace environment in a bombshell Rolling Stone exposé. He reportedly apologized to staffers via Zoom.
