How Alicia Keys Is Prepping Her Makeup-Free Face, According to Her MUA

Naturally gorgeous! Alicia Keys has been rocking her “raw,” makeup-free face since June. And while the “Girl on Fire” singer has been looking absolutely stunning, her makeup artist admits that there’s more than great genes behind that glowing complexion.

“Alicia gets regular facials, does acupuncture and she eats healthy and exercises,” her makeup artist Dotti told W Magazine. Keeping to the all-natural theme, the Voice coach, 35, also uses ice to “bring her skin to life,” cucumbers to soothe her eyes and pure jojoba oil to hydrate.

But according to Dotti, beauty truly does seep from the inside out. “She knows you have to invest internally for your skin to look great externally. It’s also about how you process your energy,” the pro, who’s also worked with Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Hill, explained. “She comes from a very strong place and she comes from a very kind place. That in itself is superimportant. But it’s about the choices she’s making and the products she’s using. It’s the work of a good team.”

That said, Keys, who shares two children with Swizz Beatz, does wear a teeny bit of makeup on TV. “Compared to the world of makeup, there is minimal,” Dotti told W. “She’s already powerful to look at, with those amazing Cleopatra-shaped eyes, and now we get to see them!”

That minimal makeup includes Vita Liberata Base Gel (for a warm glow on her cheeks) and Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender (which curbs shine). The makeup artist will also fill sparseness in her brows with individual lashes and enhance her freckles with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer.

But as stunning as she’s looked — and as powerful of a message she’s shared — don’t expect Keys’ makeup-free face to last forever. “There will come a time when we’ll paint it again,” Dotti said. “I was just speaking with her earlier and she said, ‘There’s going to be a time when I say, “You know what? I want a red lip.”’ This isn’t really a big statement. She’s just loving where she is.”
