Elegant as always. As her husband, Donald Trump, took the stage to celebrate his historic (and shocking) win as the 45th president of the United States, Melania Trump turned heads in a stunning — and surprising — ensemble inside the New York Hilton Midtown in NYC on Tuesday, November 8.
The future first lady, 46, modeled the white, one-shoulder Ralph Lauren Collection Margerie Silk Jumpsuit featuring an asymmetrical overlay ($3,990, ralphlauren.com). It was a bold choice, because while Melania had chosen Ralph Lauren once before (for the third presidential debate), the American designer was a notable go-to for Hillary Clinton.
But that wasn’t the most unexpected thing about the jumpsuit. Though it isn’t out of character for Melania to wear white, as she did multiple times throughout the campaign, it was a bit of a startling choice for election night, as white is the official color of the suffragette movement. Many Clinton supporters chose to wear white to the polls on Tuesday anticipating a potentially historic outcome. Many also chose the color for a visit to suffragette Susan B. Anthony‘s grave in Rochester, New York, where crowds left their “I voted” stickers as a symbolic “thank you.”
Of equal note, Donald’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, opted for a white wrap coat when she stepped out to vote earlier that day. However, the Trump Organization VP, 35, changed into a powder-blue A-line dress for the victory rally.
