Michelle Obama became known as the First Lady of style during her eight years in the White House thanks to her modern yet sophisticated fashion sense that included elegant (arm-baring!) dresses, glamorous gowns and chic separates. And some of her best accessories throughout those two terms in Washington, D.C., proved to be her yellow gold and diamond wedding rings, but it looks like the former First Lady may have gotten a blingy upgrade in that department.
Last month, Obama celebrated the International Day of the Girl on the Today show, and we couldn’t help but notice her left ring finger was shining extra bright against her belted white wrap dress.
The Obamas married in October 1992, and, until recently, the mom of two sported a classic solitaire diamond engagement ring set in yellow gold and a simple wedding band to match. While the former First Lady did swap out the sparkler on occasion (she rocked a glitzy cocktail ring during a 2016 black tie state dinner in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for example), the timeless duo was almost always prominently perched on her finger.
A bit of sleuthing reveals Obama left D.C. on January 20, 2017 with the OG set, but it looks like she upgraded to some new bling later that year — a 25th wedding anniversary gift from her hubby, perhaps?
While we haven’t gotten a super close-up look at the new stones yet, both rings appear to be fully encrusted in diamonds, with a large square stone on the engagement ring. The super sparkly styles are certainly a bit flashier than their predecessors but still perfectly in keeping with the First Lady’s fierce style.
