While Kermit has long sung that it’s not easy being green, Pantone begs to differ! The world-renowned color authority has named “greenery” the color of the year for 2017.
“Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew,” Pantone explained in a statement released on its website on Thursday, December 8. “Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of ‘greenery’ signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
As Pantone notes in the release, every color of the year is a reflection of society: “a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” With our nation divided socially and politically going into 2017, Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, believes that “greenery” represents our “desire to rejuvenate and revitalize.”
Nevertheless, if you’re still wary of incorporating the muppet’s signature hue into your style and beauty routine, Eisman also added this, “Though ‘greenery’ may seem like an overly energetic hue to some, I view it as more of a neutral. ‘Greenery’ is complementary to almost any color; this dovetails marvelously into the coloration of beauty products due to the shade’s tremendous versatility.”
And really, it is quite soothing:
