Get Your Party On!
Event planner Mindy Weiss has created unforgettable weddings for stars like Hilary Duff and Mike Comer, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Katy Perry and Russell Brand, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and many more.
Now Weiss (who recently planned Monica's lavish bash in L.A.) tells Us Weekly how to make your party the event of the summer!
1. Find your muse
"Inspiration for me is a daily discovery!" Weiss tells Us, "I follow fashion trends, I walk the design center to see shapes and styles. Decor magazines are like precious pieces of art. But my favorite treat is going to flea markets every Sunday to walk and imagine where all those vintage items belonged and their stories behind them."
2. Details, details, details
"Make sure that the little details become the things guests remember," says Weiss. Try to create an environment that feels good, light and allows guests to leave all their worries behind for that moment.
3. On a Budget?
Weiss' advice? "Be creative and playful! Many fun items — bubbles, silly straws, hoola hoops, and rock candy — can all be found at the 99 cent store," she points out, "A lot of times the bright and fun colors that are perfect for summer can be found at deal stores. If you're willing to put in the time it takes to find good deals, you'll find them!" Another tip: "Also buy year round; there are fabulous deals on "off-season" items that you may not need for your next event, but what a pleasant surprise when you find just the right thing in your own closet for the next season!"
