25 Most Stylish New Yorkers: Vampire Weekend

Name: Vampire Weekend

Occupation: Indie rock band

Prep schooled: The band of four, who formed when they were students at Columbia in 2006, are finishing up their world tour for album number-two, Contra, this fall. Their music, like their modern prepster boy-gentleman look, carries a cool hint of classic New York intellectual: They're not afraid to sing about punctuation (hit single "Oxford Comma") or cite both Woody Allen (lead singer Ezra Koenig) and Ryan Reynolds (drummer Chris Tomson) as style influences.

Last clothing purchase: A pair of Superga boat shoes (Koenig); A Toni Kukoc Bulls jersey in Tokyo (Tomson); An Aztec print button-down shirt from the Brooklyn Flea Market (keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij); A white T-shirt with blue stripes at Brooks Brothers in Tokyo (bass player Chris Baio)

Weekend wear: "I will always be most fascinated by Ralph Lauren," coos Koenig, while Tomson says he's liked "every piece of Band of Outsiders clothing I've ever seen." Batmanglij is a big fan of Junya Watanabe and APC, and self-described "clean and stripey" Baio favors Fred Perry, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, and Kill City.

"I don't understand why people go to such trouble to cover up their bodies in the winter but leave their faces exposed," says Koenig. "I wear a hat or hood and cover my face up to the eyes with a green plaid Ralph Lauren scarf. Throw on a pair of sunglasses and you're like the Invisible Man."
