The “Let’s Get Loud” songstress, 53, wowed in a Ralph Lauren velvet halter gown at the Monday, May 1, event. The fundraiser — which is officially titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” — celebrates the legacy of iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85. Lopez, who attended the gala without husband Ben Affleck, honored the late designer with a handmade black and pastel pink number that featured a draped skirt and feather collar. She accessorized the ensemble with elbow-length gloves, a pillbox hat and pink clutch.
While walking the red carpet at Monday’s event, the Main in Manhattan star gushed over the late designer’s legacy.
“I hate throwing around the word iconic because everyone uses it, but he actually was such an iconic figure in fashion,” she told Vogue correspondent Lala Anthony. “When you think of the last 50 years,*you think of five people in fashion. He’s one of them. What he did with Chanel for so long, keeping that brand so fresh and young and alive, he really was a genius and it’s amazing to be here tonight.”
The Marry Me star last attended the Met Gala in September 2021 alongside now-husband Ben Affleck. Lopez stunned in a brown Ralph Lauren gown and a western-inspired hat to go along with the “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” theme. Lopez and the 50-year-old Tender Bar star even shared a smooch through their respective face masks on the carpet. (The 2021 gala was postponed until September following the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.)
The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” songstress made her debut on the Met steps back in 2004 and continued to attend the annual event through the years.
“It’s a lot of walking [and] it’s a lot of lines,” Lopez previously recalled of her experience at the gala during a May 2018 appearance on the Today show. “They have everything kind of structured.”
She added at the time: “It’s a great night, super glamorous. It’s like being Cinderella for a night, you get to dress up in these beautiful gowns. Everybody’s trying to, like, be their best and outdo each other fashion-wise. It’s really kind of fun.”
Lopez’s night out in New York City marks her first Met Gala since tying the knot with Affleck. The Mother star — who shares 15-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony — and the Massachusetts native tied the knot in July 2022, nearly two decades after their initial relationship.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez wrote in her “On the J. Lo” newsletter at the time, gushing over their nuptials. “Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to [Las] Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world. Behind us two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three-hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday — all of us wanting the same thing — for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.”
