Timothée Chalamet is a red carpet star! The award-winning actor is unafraid to try out unexpected styles — and he sends fans into an excited frenzy every single time.
After kicking off his career in 2012 when he was cast in Homeland, the trendsetter got his big break with Greta Gerwig‘s Lady Bird, which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture in 2018. From there, he starred in the Oscar-nominated film Call Me By Your Name, which turned the young actor into a household name. As his star continued to rise, Chalamet’s unique fashion sense helped him stand out in the spotlight.
When Chalamet attended worldwide premieres for Call Me By Your Name, he unveiled one game-changing ensemble after another. A few standouts included his colorful, floral Alexander McQueen suit, a head-turning monochrome red moment and an on-trend velvet suit jacket from one of his go-to designers, Haider Ackermann.
Since then, he hasn’t let up in bringing his best to the red carpet. In fact, the looks just keep getting better and better! In 2019, he wore an eye-catching sequined harness to the Golden Globes, followed by a Louis Vuitton sequined hoodie at The King premiere and the paint-splattered overalls he donned for the film’s screening in South Korea.
Flash-forward to September 2022, the New York native proved he was a fashion force to be reckoned with, wearing a shiny red halter top at the Bones & All premiere at the Venice Film Festival in Italy. The custom Haider Ackerman creation was paired with coordinating trousers and glossy black boots. The ensemble perfectly complemented costar Taylor Russell’s striking green Balenciaga couture dress.
Chalamet’s sense of style extends far beyond the red carpet, however. In October 2022, the actor made history as the first man to grace the cover of British Vogue — all by himself. The fashion publication’s editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful, revealed the monumental issue in a letter published in September 2022. “For the first time in British Vogue‘s 106-year history, this month a man is flying solo on our cover,” Enninful wrote. (While men have been seen on the front of British Vogue in the past, they’ve been accompanied by models and actresses.)
Speaking on his decision to put Chalamet on the cover solo, Enninful explained that he wanted to break free from “tired old gender boxes.” He then praised the Oscar nominee for being not only a “modern” man and an incredible actor, but also a person with a “feverishly followed fashion persona.”
