Congratulations to Janelle Monae, CoverGirl's newest celebrity face!
"One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique," the 26-year-old R&B crooner says in a release. "Becoming a COVERGIRL is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out."
The "Tightrope" singer is the second star this month to be named to the makeup brand's already-established celebrity spokeswomen roster. Just last week, new mom Pink was announced as the face of CoverGirl's 'Beauty with an Edge' campaign. The newcomers join current brand ambassadors Taylor Swift, Sofia Vergara, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres and Queen Latifah.
This summer continues to deliver great success for the Grammy nominated up-and-comer, whose vocals are featured on the hit anthem, "We Are Young" by the band Fun. The single stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six consecutive weeks.
She's also the profile for Vanity Fair's Hot Tracks in their September issue, where she talks about her monochromatic wardrobe. "It's part of having something that's transcendent. You could time travel, you could go all over the world, it won't ever go out of style," she says of her chic black and white. "It's just a part of a 'brand' that I created, even if nobody was watching. I know what I like; if you go to my closet, I have at least four of everything. Once you find what you like, it's like it worked yesterday, it works today, it'll work tomorrow.
