Johnny Depp may just be the realest! The Oscar-nominated actor is completely aware of his signature dishevelment, but he has a fun fact for those deterred by his appearance.
On stage at the 2nd Annual Beauty Awards in Hollywood on Sunday, February 21, Depp, 52, recalled how he was once voted best and worst dressed by the same magazine, who believed he looked like a "vagabond." But he noted, "When I met people they said, 'You do look like a hobo, but you smell really good.' And goddamn it, I smell really good!"
The secret behind his irresistible scent, of course, is Dior Sauvage, the cologne he both wears and is an ambassador for. "It is an honor to be here — and I never thought I'd say this — to present the 2016 fragrance of the year award for Dior Sauvage," Depp, who shares Lily-Rose, 16, and John, 13, with ex Vanessa Paradis, said. "I had a really great time working with them, to collaborate with them on their first fragrance for fellas since the launch of Dior Homme in 2008."
The quirky actor, who's famous for his one-of-a-kind roles in Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland, also saluted the Beauty Awards for using its gala to benefit a charity close to his heart. "I'd like the thank the Hollywood Beauty Awards for choosing the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles — it's very important!" Depp (in Dior Homme) said. "Thank you."
Depp has raised money for the hospital in the past. Plus, he has famously dressed up as his Pirates of the Caribbean character, Captain Jack Sparrow, to visit children's hospitals around the world.
