Making new memories. Paris Jackson has recently debuted a host of new tattoos, including a tribute to her father, the late Michael Jackson, on her forearm. But the body ink is more than just a reflection of his memory — it's a way to rewrite her past.

"I appreciate art, I always have. especially when that art means something to me," Jackson, 18, began in an emotional message shared via Instagram on Tuesday, June 14. "Today I can look at my inner forearms and see art that has meaning for me, I don't see a dark past anymore."

The Jacksons: Next Generations star, who has struggled with self-harm and depression in the past, culminating in a suicide attempt in June 2013, is now looking to the future. "My scars and past of self-hatred have been covered by loving marks, creativity, ingenuity.. and depth," she explained. "Sure I will always carry my past with me, but I see ink as a way of changing for the better, always improving. they represent strength for me. I look back at my old self and then I look in the mirror, and I see a fighter looking back at me."

Jackson is using her journey as a way to help others too. "I'll always keep fighting, and encouraging others to stay strong," she wrote. "We all go through hell every now and then but it makes us the warriors of love we were meant to be. so to anyone struggling, it gets better. you're not alone."
Along with the tattoo in remembrance of her father, Jackson also has a tribute to her grandmother Katherine Jackson in the form of a lotus flower on her wrist.
