This is what new motherhood looks like! A woman named Amanda Bacon became an overnight Internet celebrity when she shared a candid photo of herself rocking mesh panties stuffed with an enormous maxi pad just 24 hours after giving birth. In the image, her graphic designer fiancé Ken Hardy (who snapped the pic on the sly) is seen cradling their newborn son, Pierson.

“I’m sharing this picture because it’s real. This is motherhood; it’s raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one,” the 28-year-old from Wilmington, North Carolina, wrote in her July 6 Facebook post. “Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper.”

The mom of daughter Kaelyn, 3, and Pierson, 6 weeks, tells Us Weekly many women don’t know about heavy postpartum bleeding. “It’s not spoken about enough or shared enough,” says Bacon. “I sure as heck didn’t know this happened after I gave birth to Kaelyn, and was totally unprepared. So I took the plunge and went there.” (Chrissy Teigen was in the same boat! “No one told me I would be coming home in diapers too,” she tweeted April 20.)

“It’s part of the process, and it happens to all of us who give birth,” Bacon tells Us. “Don’t take yourself too seriously. Laugh about it and enjoy every second of the experience. It’s unlike anything else you’ll ever go through; the good, bad and ugly combined.”

Bacon’s brutally honest post has been been liked 481,000 times and shared more than 118,000 times. “Haha I remember the mom underwear with an ice pack!” wrote one woman, while another raved: “Wow she’s braver than I ever was. Way to go mom!”
