Ready for their first dance! Amy Purdy is engaged to her boyfriend Daniel Gale. The double-amputee snowboarding champ announced the news via Twitter on Thursday, May 14.
“Just said ‘yes’ to this amazing man!” the 35-year-old captioned a sweet photo of the two on the beach. “#engaged #love #puertorico.”
“The moment was perfect even though the ring is still being made!” she added via Instagtam. “Until it’s done I have a sweet, from the heart, one that he hand made on the beach today.”
Besides being a bronze medalist, Purdy is perhaps best known for competing on season 18 of Dancing With the Stars. (She used prosthetic feet at the time.) Purdy wowed the judges — and the world — week after week with her partner Derek Hough.
“It’s been huge. It’s been amazing to see how well received our dances are,” Purdy told Us Weekly in March 2014 while appearing on the ABC series. “I’m so grateful to inspire other people but I’m also here challenging myself and being the best that I can be. I’m super competitive and that’s part of it as well. I’m so glad people are accepting our dances as well as they are.”
The pair placed second, losing to pro dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy and Olympic ice skater Meryl Davis.
“Ahhh! Congratulations @AmyPurdyGurl!!!” Davis tweeted to Purdy after hearing about her engagement news. “Can’t wait to hear more!!!!! So happy for you!!!”
