Quite the consolation prize! Benedict Cumberbatch was edged out at last month's 87th Annual Academy Awards, but his spirits were picked up soon after by a romantic honeymoon with his new wife Sophie Hunter

The celebrated star, 38, was up for a Best Actor Oscar for his work in The Imitation Game, but lost to fellow Brit Eddie Redmayne, who took home the award for The Theory of Everything. Cumberbatch didn't pout for long, however, as he and Hunter jetted off the following day.

The newlyweds escaped from Los Angeles and headed to Tahiti and Bora Bora, sources tell Us Weekly. The lovebirds, who tied the knot on Valentine's Day, shacked up in luxe accommodations for their island getaway, hiding out in a bungalow overlooking the ocean.

Expecting their first child together later this year, Cumberbatch and Hunter spent much of their honeymoon time unwinding and soaking up their moments together as a twosome before they add to their family.

"They were completely relaxed and didn't do much of anything other than read and swim in the water," an eyewitness tells Us Weekly. "Benedict did a little bit of snorkeling and really enjoyed the fact that he could just put on his flippers and his mask and jump off the deck into the turquoise water. He also spent a good deal of time reading scripts and taking pictures of everything with his professional camera, especially Sophie."

"Sophie spent most of her time taking naps and resting," the insider added of the newly minted Mrs. Cumberbatch. "Benedict always made sure she was taken care of. He was always rubbing sunscreen on her back and kissing her neck."

The Sherlock actor began dating the stage star in early 2014, and the couple announced their engagement this past November in a simple Times of London wedding listing. They wed quietly in Britain, exchanging vows in an intimate ceremony with friends and family. Before attending the Oscars together they enjoyed a peaceful road trip up the PCH Highway in the 2015 F-Type V8 S convertible as a mini-honeymoon before making it to Tahiti.

"They had breakfast every morning together on their patio," the source adds of the happy pair's time together. "They were very leisurely with their time and just sipped their drinks and watched the water. Whenever they got hot, they went into the ocean and swam, but most of the time they just stayed at their bungalow."
