Bernie’s not for Hollywood. Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders slammed opponent Hillary Clinton’s upcoming A-list fundraiser with George Clooney and his wife, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, during an appearance on CNN on Sunday, March 27.
Clinton has teamed up for the Clooneys for the pricey event to be held on April 15. According to Politico, attendees must contribute or raise $353,400 for a pair of seats at the actor’s table at the posh fundraiser.
“It is obscene that Secretary Clinton keeps going to big money people to fund her campaign,” Sanders said. “But it’s not only this Clooney event, it is the fact that she has now raised well over $15 million from Wall Street for her super PAC and millions more from the fossil fuel industry and from the drug companies.”
The 74-year-old Vermont senator noted to CNN that his campaign has received $6 million in contributions, but not through lavish connections.
“I think what we are trying to do is run a campaign, to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, of the people, by the people and for the people,” he explained to CNN, before bashing democratic front-runner Clinton again. “Not just reaching out to billionaires and the wealthiest people in this country.”
The Clooneys are also hosting an equally pricey Clinton event at their Los Angeles residence on April 16. According to Politico, attendees can pay $33,400 per person to dine at a table with the couple.
While talking with CNN, Sanders pointed out that his events only cost “15 to 50 bucks.”
