In behind-the-scenes shots from Vanessa Hudgens‘ new movie Spring Breakers, it looks like the cast is headed for a spring breakdown.
The bikini-clad actress, 23, has been shooting scenes with costars Selena Gomez, 19, Ashley Benson, 22, and Rachel Korine, 25, in St. Petersburg, Florida all week — and it appears as if things are starting to unravel for their characters.
In one scene, Hudgens — who dons a blonde wig for her role — chugs Jack Daniels out of the bottle after leaving a liquor store. The hard partying eventually takes a toll on the four friends, as Korine’s character is later seen face-down in the street.
Directed by Harmony Korine, the screenwriter behind the controversial ’90s indie Kids, Spring Breakers follows four college students who rob a bank to help fund a spring break trip. When they get arrested, they’re bailed out by a drug dealer (played by James Franco, 33) who wants to employ them.
“I think at the end of the day you have to do parts that you could semi-relate to,” Hudgens recently told E! News. “I’m certainly not one who is going to rob a bank, but there is a part of me that loves smashing things and I get to do that [in this film].”
Echoed Benson, via Twitter: “It will be an amazing movie — very different from anything I’ve ever done.”
In another scene, the four stars don neon bikinis and Soffe shorts while frolicking in the ocean; another shows the actresses riding brightly-colored scooters through town.
Despite their character’s bad girl personas, Benson vows she’ll never misbehave that way in real life. “I’ve seen a lot of people — for example, Lindsay Lohan — who got into the wrong crowd,” she tells Teen Vogue‘s April issue. “I always have my eye on what I want. And I don’t want anything to distract me from that.”
Spring Breakers, which also stars Glee‘s Heather Morris, is expected to premiere in 2013.
