Come again? Bindi Irwin is in a very strange legal situation, TMZ reports. A judge has rejected the Australian personality’s Dancing With the Stars contract because the court wants proof that her famous dad, Steve Irwin, is really dead.
TMZ reports that lawyers from the ABC dancing competition submitted a minor’s contract because Bindi is 17. Her mother, Terri Irwin, signed the document so that Bindi can keep the money she earns while appearing on Season 21. The judge, however, would like the teen’s father to also fill out his own copy of the document giving up his rights to his daughters earnings. It’s unclear whether the family can just submit Steve’s death certificate.
The popular Crocodile Hunter tragically passed away at the age of 44 after a stingray stabbed him in September 2006. Late last month, Bindi and her pro partner, Derek Hough, even dedicated one of their performances to him.
According to TMZ, Bindi — who is going into Week 9 of the show — has earned an estimated $230,000 so far. She will reportedly take home $50,000 a week for the final two weeks if she makes it to the end.
Story is still developing.
