Sing it, Celine! Celine Dion is the latest in a long line of artists to cover Adele’s hit “Hello” — and the legendary vocalist’s intensity and finesse just about rival the 25 singer’s powerful voice.
The iconic Canadian singer belted out the wintry ballad during her New Year’s Eve show — part of her long-running residency at Caesar’s Palace — in Las Vegas on Thursday, December 31, prefacing the epic cover with a few words.
“If I may, I would like Adele to be part of our New Year’s Eve,” she began, quickly adding, “So don’t panic, she’s not in the building. … Do we need to change the battery in my microphone? It kind of lost it a bit. Adele, hello? Hello?”
Dion, 47, then launched into the song with her powerful vocals and a few ad-libbed moments.
The “My Heart Will Go On” singer has also previously covered Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.”
Dion returned to the Las Vegas stage this past August after a yearlong hiatus to support her husband, Rene Angelil, through his throat cancer battle.
“I’m trying really hard to show my children that sickness and things happen in life,” she said during a press conference. “You cannot be crying and be depressed and consistently talk about, ‘Oh, my God.’”
The singer and Angelil, 73, have three children together — Rene-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 4.
“My love, we love you,” she continued at the time, addressing Angelil directly through the cameras. “Lots of strength tonight. Promise me something: Just enjoy. Just enjoy. Just let it go. We love you.”
