Charlize Theron can't relate to her peers.
During The New York Times' TimesTalk panel in NYC Friday, the 36-year-old actress said she prepared for her role in Young Adult by exploring the oddities of women her age.

"I'm pretty amazed by Hello Kitty. I see so many women in their 30s walking around in Hello Kitty sh-t and nobody is concerned for them," Theron said. "It's the one iconic teenage symbol that seems okay for women in their 30s? The world seems to not have an issue with it."

Realizing such women were quite similar to her character, Theron "said to the costume director, 'Get me some Hello Kitty T-shirts.' Those were my demands."
All kidding aside, Theron believes "women are just as messed up" as men, which is what made her role in Young Adult so fun.

"I'm really glad I got to play this character and that it's being appreciated," said Theron, who "grew up on '70s films with Gene Hackman, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman."
"It's such a luxury to be able to do a film that you want to do," the Oscar winner added.

Tell Us What You Think
11Seriously, Charlize, it is you that needs to grow up and not take life so seriously. I admit that I do love Hello Kitty and have a closet full of tees, amongst other things, but so what? I you want to parade around wearing Mickey Mouse jibbets on your sandals I don't care, either. Expressing your individuality often opens barriers with strangers who might not otherwise talk to you. Doesn't necessarily mean one is seeking attention, just lightens the atmosphere I find. Used to really like Charlize Theron ... until now. Thumbs down for that little rant.
I LOVE HELLO KITTY! I'll go see the movie wearing my Hello Kitty shirt btw I'm 29!
Wearing Hello Kitty as an adult can punch up a boring outfit and shows the world you don't take yourself too seriously. That might be something Charlize should try. Don't worry about what I'm wearing hon, and I won't worry about the fact you don't seem to be aging well. All this anti bullying talk everywhere, and a GROWN WOMAN is having a go at other women for their fashion choices?
After I saw her on the Ellens show this week, she doesn't understand many things. She told Ellen she was good at the game where you guess the Hollywood star. She named a man for a woman's picture, didn't know Clooney films, then insulted Ellen because she got all wrong. Ellen said I thought you said you were good at this game. Not the way you play it, Theron remarked. I am worried about you. (insult)
I like her, but...can't she find something else to be concerned about?
I cannot WAIT to see this movie, but when it comes to Hello Kitty, I'm not a huge fan, I think the merch is pretty adorable but the obsession with it seems a little strange to me as well.
First of all, I'm not "as messed up as men." I am an intelligent woman who has liked Hello Kitty since it was first introduced in the U.S. in 1976. Would I buy a Tshirt? Probably not...but I wouldn't diss someone with it...There are worse things...like wearing one that says I'm with Stupid!
She looks worn out
Finally!! It's pathetic that grown women are obsessed with something like this. I liked Spotty Dotty (the less famous half) but that was when I was 6!
Finally someone that shares in my confusion about the adult Hello Kitty fascination!
she is an excellent actress
