Update: Chaz Bono Splits With Fiancee Jennifer Elias

Chaz Bono is now a single man.
The writer, GLBT activist and Dancing with the Stars alum, 42, and love Jennifer Elias have called off their engagement and are no longer a couple, their rep Howard Bragman told Us Weekly Monday.

"They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection towards one another," the rep says.
Bono tweeted Monday afternoon: "Thanks for your concern about our separation. I'm doing fine, and we remain on good terms with nothing but respect and affection for each other."
Elias embarked on a relationship with Cher and the late Sonny Bono's eldest child five years ago -- when he was still a woman who went by the name of Chastity Bono.

In May, Elias admitted to Oprah Winfrey "it was really hard" when her partner transitioned from female to male; Bono announced his decision to undergo gender reassignment in June 2009.
"We had to really almost re-learn how to communicate and how to be around each other," Elias said.
Bono proposed to Elias on the top of Space Needle in Seattle earlier this year -- in an episode of Being Chaz, his OWN reality show, which aired last month.

It sounds like they really tried to make it work and I am sure they both will move on to find great love.

Hi Jordan. I've read and heard that Jennifer Elias is bisexual, so that's why she and Chaz originally thought their relationship would still work. But in his book "Transition," Chaz describes problems that began as soon as he started getting testosterone treatments. His personality changed quite a bit, and he was no longer the exact same person Jennifer fell in love with. He also said some things about her in the book that I felt were rather unkind. So I'm not that surprised that their relationship fell apart. I got the impression that Chaz didn't fully appreciate how difficult his transition was for Jennifer.
I'm not surprised. His fiancé is a lesbian. So why would she stay after Chaz decided to become a man. I'm sure you can still love the person, but being in a romantic relationship with someone of a gender you're not sexually attracted to would be impossible to sustain.

Chaz actually transitioned from female to male. After watching the documentary and Being Chaz, I could sense that Elias would not be around much longer. Chaz deserves someone who will accept him and treat him with the respect he deserves.
