Happy, awkward holidays for Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman in the Big Apple.

Us Weekly broke news on Tuesday that the Smash actress, 43, and the actor-TV producer, 44, had separated after over ten years of marriage. "The decision was mutual," Messing's rep told Us in a statement. "They remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family."

How committed? A source told Us that the former couple "have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman," their 7-year-old son.

The family recently relocated from Los Angeles to NYC (where Messing and Zelman first met as NYU students), where she's been filming Smash, the buzzed-about new NBC series due in February.

The split is "very amicable," the source added.

Despite their secret separation, Messing and Zelman attended Bette Midler's Halloween bash in matching costumes -- and the former Will and Grace actress gushed in November to LilSugar about her family's holiday plans in NYC.

I am thinking this is bogus. It's not like either of them is poor and have to stay together. And, I know of only idiots who stay together for the sake of kids, who KNOW there is something wrong. Only option left is, this is bogus.

Wow, I didn't see this coming at all. Debra had such a smash hit with WILL AND GRACE and hasn't had anything really click since then. But sharing your residence with your signifigent other would be very taxing!

I thought I'd seen her without her wedding ring lately - and I thought something was up. And I was right, sad to say.
