This duck just found its mate — for life! Duck Dynasty star Rebecca Lo Robertson got engaged on New Year’s Eve on a beach in Florida, and Us Weekly has all the details.

According to Robertson, 27, she and fiancé John Reed Loflin were “treasure hunting” for shells at sunset down on the beach on Thursday, December 31, when she happened to spot a particularly gorgeous specimen in the sand.

“I was determined to find the best shell that day,” she exclusively tells Us Weekly. “We had been walking, searching for about an hour, and I saw this beautiful swirly shell hidden in the sand, and the ring was also hiding in there, and he got on his one knee as I pulled the ring out, and he said, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you spend the rest of your life with me?’”

Robertson tells Us that she immediately cried, “Yes!” and that Loflin, 29, “teared up a little.”

The ring is a 14-karat-gold art deco–style ring with a large oval-shaped opal (“My birth/favorite stone!” Robertson tells Us) that jewelry designer Lindsey Lewis created with Loflin and his sister, Nicki Loflin Sampognaro.

“I had no idea!” Robertson tells Us of the surprise proposal. “Apparently all my friends and family knew, but everyone did a really good job hiding it from me; they have got some really good acting skills!”

The pair first met on Halloween 2014 during Voodoo Fest in New Orleans, and have been happily together ever since.

“I knew from the first moment I met her [that I’d propose],” Loflin tells Us. “I have been planning in my head to ask her for a long while now. … I know we both want to start our lives together. And we would love to have children at a point as well!”

Robertson joined the cast of Duck Dynasty in season 5. Korie and Willie Robertson’s foster daughter, who joined the Robertson family at age 16 in 2004, currently runs the Monroe, Louisiana, flagship retail store Duck & Dressing.

As for planning the wedding, the happy couple want to take their time.

“We are thinking nine months to a year,” Robertson says. “That way we can calmly plan everything and go over fine details that we want. … We are beyond happy and thankful for our family for leading up to this chapter of our lives, and we are so excited to see what God has in store for our future.”
